What's new

  • Pick the voice language and the subtitle language separately. PC Options → System (Device Options on Android) has two new rows, both applied after a restart:

    • Subtitles and text: English, Español (Latinoamérica), Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Polski, Russian, Korean or Traditional Chinese. Menus, game text and subtitles switch to it.
    • Voices: Same as subtitles, English, Español (Latinoamérica) or Français, the three dubs on the retail disc.

For example, English voices with Spanish subtitles, Spanish voices with English subtitles, or French voices with German text. "Same as subtitles" uses the subtitle language's voices when the disc has them, and English otherwise.

    • How it works: each voice package on the disc carries the subtitles of every language. The game picks its text language from the console language setting, and the port serves the other language's voice packages, with their sizes in the disc's table of contents, from your own game folder. Your game files are never modified. Details and measurements are in docs/LANGUAGES.md.
    • Checked: all nine text languages boot in their own language, and chapter 1 loads with English voices + Spanish text and with Spanish voices + English text. The tests cannot hear audio, so if a voice line sounds wrong, please tell us in an issue.
    • In the menu, Russian, Korean and Chinese are listed by their English names, because the menu font is Latin-only; the game itself shows those languages fine.
  • The same is in gow2.toml: user_language (1 English, 5 Spanish, 4 French, 3 German, 6 Italian, 11 Polish, 12 Russian, 7 Korean, 8 Traditional Chinese) and gow2_voice_language (auto, en, es, fr).

Downloads

  • gow2-recomp-0.3.7-win64.zip: Windows 10/11 x64. Bring your own game files: your .iso or an extracted folder (see QUICKSTART.txt).
  • gow2-recomp-0.3.7-android-arm64.apk: Android 10+ arm64, experimental.

Both files were scanned with Microsoft Defender before upload. Windows 11 "Bad Image ... 0xc0e90002" is Smart App Control blocking the unsigned DLLs (see the README). Every player in a System Link or co-op session should run the same release.
