What's new

  • The native renderer now draws every draw path from the game's Direct3D calls, on PC and Android. Indexed draws, non-indexed draws (including the ones the game writes through vertex-copy segments) and Clear with its rectangles take their render state, shader constants and shaders from the game's own Direct3D device, instead of being replayed from the emulated console GPU's command stream. It is on by default everywhere (Graphics → Draw source: Automatic / Direct3D calls / Console commands). Checked register by register against the emulated path on PC, and the picture is the same on PC and on a Galaxy S25 Ultra.
    • What still goes through the console command path by design: resolves (already native since 0.3.0), swaps and fences, and the rare draw issued while the command ring is being handed to the GPU (about 3 a frame, left alone for safety).
    • This moves CPU work out of the emulated GPU; it does not make each draw cheaper for the GPU, which is what limits phones.
  • Graphics → Anti-aliasing: FXAA and FXAA Extreme, on every platform (#23).
  • Fix: vertex buffers the game rewrites every frame no longer reach the first draw of a frame with the previous frame's data (#20, found and fixed by @Flippage in the Gears of War 3 recomp; applied to both the D3D12 and Vulkan backends).
  • Keyboard prompts in gameplay (#21): with the keycap pack and prompts set to Keyboard, the controller buttons that the HUD draws from the game's button font are remapped to your keys. Not yet confirmed in game; screenshots welcome in #21.
  • Android documentation updated with current numbers (Galaxy S25 Ultra: about 47-53 fps from a cool start, 37-40 fps warm).

Downloads

  • gow2-recomp-0.3.4-win64.zip: Windows 10/11 x64. Bring your own game files (see QUICKSTART.txt).
  • gow2-recomp-0.3.4-android-arm64.apk: Android 10+ arm64, experimental.

Windows 11 "Bad Image ... 0xc0e90002" is Smart App Control blocking the unsigned DLLs (see the README). Every player in a System Link or co-op session should run the same release.
