What's new
- Android: the status bar no longer stays on top of the game (issue #40). The game window opened as a normal window, so Android kept the status bar visible. It now opens fullscreen and hides the status and navigation bars; swiping from the edge shows them for a moment.
- Faster native draws (Draw source → Direct3D calls). Each native draw now applies its state in one block instead of one register at a time. This is the default path on Adreno phones (Draw source → Automatic), so Snapdragon players should get a bit more headroom. On our PC test (RX 7800 XT, chapter 2 hospital, Draw source → Direct3D calls) it went from 112-160 fps to 185-211 fps. PCs keep Console commands as the default, which is still faster there.
- Shader cache lines in
gow2.log(issue #37). TwoSHADERSTORAGElines say how many shaders and pipelines the cache loaded at startup and how many were compiled while playing. They tell us whether stutters come from shaders compiling for the first time. - Less log spam on 4-core CPUs (issue #37). "Too few processor cores" is written once, with the core count, instead of every time a game thread changes core.
- Test tooling for issue #38:
!knockdown <target> <speed>simulates a heavy hit, such as a Mauler's flail (docs/TEST_TOOLING.md).
Not tested yet
- The Android fullscreen change (#40) on a phone. It builds and installs, but our test phone was locked when we tried. If the status bar still shows, please tell us your phone model and Android version.
- The faster native draws on an Adreno phone. Frame rates compared with 0.3.13 are welcome, ideally with the
gow2.logof that run (Launch options → Share last log).
Known issues
- Death after being knocked down (issue #38): a player knocked down and then killed can stay frozen on the death screen. We tried knockdowns followed by lethal hits in the solo campaign, two-player co-op and solo Horde, and every death was handled normally, so we still need a
gow2.logfrom a run where it happens. - Smearing on some AMD cards (issue #26): on an RX 7900 XT and an RX 9070 XT the native renderer leaves smears and dark patches that follow the characters. Graphics → Renderer → Emulated (EDRAM) avoids it.
- Vulkan on Radeon Vega (issue #34): after quitting to the main menu, the menu text can turn invisible. Not reproduced on an RX 7800 XT yet.
- Every player in a System Link or co-op session should run the same release.
