skillshare v0.28.4 Release Notes

TL;DR

  1. Install with Nix. The repository is now a Nix flake: nix profile add github:runkids/skillshare.
  2. Upgrades understand Nix. skillshare upgrade, the update notice, doctor and the dashboard tell a Nix install how to update instead of trying to replace a read-only store binary.
  3. Agent updates keep their source. Updating an agent installed from a repository no longer loses the repository, so later updates keep arriving.
  4. Skillshare panel for Herdr. See which skills need an update or a sync beside your agents, and act on it on every machine Herdr connects to.

New: Nix flake

Install the CLI from the flake (Nix 2.30+ with flakes enabled; on older Nix use nix profile install):

nix profile add github:runkids/skillshare

Update it later with:

nix profile upgrade skillshare

NixOS and Home Manager users can add the flake's overlays.default and install pkgs.skillshare from their configuration. (#764)

Changed: upgrades on Nix installs

A binary under /nix/store/ is read-only, so skillshare no longer tries to replace it.

  • skillshare upgrade still updates the built-in skill. For the CLI it reports "already up to date", or prints the command to run and exits 0: nix profile upgrade skillshare for a nix profile install, or a note to update your Nix configuration and rebuild for NixOS, Home Manager and overlay installs.
  • The update notice and doctor suggest the same command.
  • The dashboard shows the Nix note in the update dialog before you click Update. Update still refreshes the built-in skill, then tells you how to update the CLI with Nix instead of restarting onto the same binary.

Installs from Homebrew, the install script or go install behave as before, and the non-TTY update notice keeps its Run '…' to update wording. (#764, #770, #771, #772)

New: skillshare panel for Herdr

Herdr users get a skillshare panel beside their agents. It follows the space Herdr shows, runs skillshare on that space's machine, and stays open or closed as you switch spaces.

  • Resources groups skills, agents, MCP servers and plugins into Updates available, Needs sync and In sync, with Update, Diff, Uninstall and an option to ask the focused agent to audit an item.
  • Install takes a repository URL, audits a clone first, and installs only when the audit passes. A blocked install shows the findings before anything is written.
  • Source offers Pull, Commit and push, and Sync. When a pull stops on files both machines changed, you pick a version per file from a side-by-side preview.
  • Machines shows each machine's skillshare version, source state and doctor warnings, with Pull and sync and, when a newer release exists, Update.

Each machine runs its own work, one action at a time, and machines run side by side. Long commands keep running after Herdr's exec returns, and a command that stops early reports its last error line.

Setup needs Herdr 0.1.12 or later: copy mods/skillshare/ and the layout from herdr/skillshare into ~/.config/herdr-app/, then run herdr-app check. See Using skillshare in Herdr. (#766, #773, #774, #775)

Fixed

  • Agent updates keep their source. After the first skillshare update agents, or an update from the dashboard, an agent's recorded source lost its repository, so check agents stopped looking upstream and later changes never arrived. Updates now write back the source the agent was installed from. An agent that an earlier 0.28.x update already rewrote cannot be repaired automatically; reinstall it once:

skillshare install <repo> --kind agent --all --force
