TL;DR

1. skillshare mcp check tells you whether a server will work as synced, before an Agent tries to start it. --live also starts it and asks what it is.
2. Pi's built-in MCP is supported, and new servers that go to Pi use it by default. No extension to install.
3. The MCP dashboard is tidier: two buttons in the header, Check and backups in the Sync box, and a preview of every file Sync writes.
4. Shell completion matches the CLI again, in all five shells.

Check MCP servers before an Agent starts them

A synced server can still fail when its Agent starts it: a variable it reads is unset, its command is not installed, its host does not resolve, or the Agent's file drifted from the source. Until now you found out inside the Agent.

It starts nothing, writes nothing and never prints variable values. Errors exit 1, so it works in scripts and CI. From the global config it also checks the servers under mcp.projects, and says which project each belongs to.

--live goes one step further: it starts each local server, or sends one request to each remote one, reports the server's name, version, protocol and number of tools, then stops it. A server that needs sign-in is a warning; skillshare never signs in.

In the dashboard, Check sits in the MCP page's Sync box, and each project's MCP tab has its own.

Pi built-in MCP

Pi 0.99.0 ships MCP itself. piExtension: builtin writes servers to ~/.pi/agent/mcp.json (or .pi/mcp.json in a project) with nothing to install, and piOptions carries Pi's per-server settings such as exposure and toolExposure:

A new server that reaches Pi without a mode now uses the built-in one. Before, mcp add --target pi without --pi-extension failed. Servers you already have keep their mode, and pi-mcp-adapter and pi-mcp-extension are still there.

Clearing a Pi setting now stops managing it and leaves the value in Pi. --pi-options-prune, or Remove cleared settings from Pi in the dashboard, removes the fields skillshare wrote that nobody has changed since.

A calmer MCP page

• The header keeps Import from a target and Add server. Check and Backups and restore moved into the Sync box, next to the state they act on.
• Each server row shows its command beside its name and its Agents as chips below; the Pi chip shows the Pi mode.
• View what each Agent gets lists the source and every Agent's file side by side, with its format and syntax highlighting, and counts the files Sync writes.
• The server dialog has the Pi mode, tool exposure and other Pi settings, and a pasted single server gets the same fields.

Fixes

• Shell completion. Completion offered commands that did not work, such as backup restore and hub index --audit-skills. They are gone, and every shell now completes mcp check and its flags, backup files, audit rules and other missing subcommands and flags.
• SSH errors. A failed clone over SSH now keeps the reason, such as Permission denied (publickey) or Host key verification failed, instead of only "Could not read from remote repository.".
• Target links. Target rows on the dashboard, Playful pin notes and "needs attention" entries now open that target's page instead of the list.
• Chinese wording. The dashboard says 目標 / 目标 instead of mixing in "target".
• Hubs page. With no default hub saved, it opened with nothing selected. It now stars and opens on Skillshare Hub, the hub search --hub uses.
• Find skills. On a source with no skills, it installed the whole source anyway. It now says nothing was found.
• MCP restore preview. Switching backups no longer resizes the dialog.
