This is v1.6.1 of the Smartnode stack, a small (but important) update to the release that supports The Merge.
The Merge is expected between September 10th and 20th.

This is a high priority update for Nimbus and Teku users, as well as anyone using the Graffiti Wall Writer.
For everyone else, this is low priority.

Note:

• Docker Mode users still on v1.5.x must upgrade before September 6th, 11:34 UTC to be ready for the Bellatrix hardfork of the Beacon Chain.
• Hybrid and Native mode users must manually update their Execution and Consensus clients before September 6th, 11:34 UTC to the latest versions that support Bellatrix and The Merge; see https://blog.ethereum.org/2022/08/24/mainnet-merge-announcement/ for more information on this.

Client Updates

• Updated Nimbus to v22.8.1 - a high priority update
• Updated Teku to v22.8.2 - a high priority update

Smartnode Changes

• Teku users now have a toggle for enabling or disabling archive mode, which is required in order to manually generate the Merkle rewards trees. You can find it in Teku's configuration options within the TUI.

  • As with v1.6.0, archive mode is enabled by default.
  • Teku users on VPS platforms that noticed problems with increased IOPS will likely benefit from disabling it but will not be able to generate their own trees; they must use the ones provided by the Oracle DAO. These are downloaded automatically unless you specifically opt into manual tree generation.

• rocketpool network generate-rewards-tree now always tries your primary EC first before using the backup Archive EC, just in case you happen to have an Archive EC as your primary.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed some issues with the Graffiti Wall Writer addon.

  • The installer will now remove the old graffiti file and let the VC create its own, which the addon's container will then write to.
  • Fixed graffiti generation for Prysm, which was using a format that Prysm didn't support.

• [Go Library] Effective RPL stake once again returns 0 if you are below 10% collateral.

Misc Changes

• Removed the legacy support system and the upgrade detection functionality now that all networks have been upgraded to Redstone.
