What's New
Version 6 makes spex agent-harness-agnostic. Setup moves from Claude Code plugin initialization to spec-kit's workflow system, so the same spec-driven workflow runs on Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode.
⚠️ Breaking changes
- Workflow-based setup replaces plugin-based init. Re-run
/spex:initin projects upgraded from v5.x. A leftover.specify/spex-traits.jsonis detected and reported (no longer used). See Migrating from v5.x to v6.x. - Extensions are self-contained — each bundle now carries its own scripts.
Multi-harness support
- Harness-neutral command vocabulary adapted per harness at setup time, plus a Codex hook contract and native Codex project configuration. Works on Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode.
New capabilities
- spex-detach: stealth mode that hides spec artifacts from git for contributing to non-SDD repos, with
disable, registry-awareis-enabled, and sibling-repo archiving. - Guided-demo smoke test: synthesizes user-observable flows from spec FRs and presents evidence for review.
- Smart phase splitting in spex-collab via file-count thresholds.
context_boundaryhook for post-implement review gates, goal-alignment agent, early Codecov detection, finish --auto, and a spec-declared constants drift check inreview-code.- Review and PR-comment triage can be delegated to the standalone cc-review plugin.
Changed
- Rewrote ship-state and detach scripts in Python.
- Init writes ignore rules to
.git/info/excludeinstead of the tracked.gitignore. - Synced with Superpowers 6.4.2 ("leaner plans" into the review-plan gate; shared-understanding into brainstorm) and 6.3.0.
Fixed
- Resolved open bugs (#14, #19, #21, #22, #23, #24), multiple worktree fixes, robust agent detection, and registry-aware detach checks.
