Tisty 1.31.0

The biggest Tisty yet. OneDrive joins Google Drive, every task gets a page of its own, documents get a new editor that writes as it reads, notes come in from Word, the web and Obsidian, Settings are rebuilt from scratch, and Tisto, Tisty's beaver, comes along to cheer you on.

Sync with OneDrive

  • Connect your OneDrive from Settings, just like Google Drive. Your tasks and documents travel in a hidden space only Tisty opens: there is no Tisty account and nothing goes through a server of ours.
  • Long uploads pick up where they left off if the connection drops, and a write that gets cut is tried again on its own.
  • OneDrive waits and pauses are handled the same way as Google Drive's: Tisty keeps your work safe on this computer and carries on when it can.
  • Move between this computer, a folder, Google Drive and OneDrive whenever you like.
  • A shared place that an older Tisty also uses is marked first, so the older copy stops before it reads anything it does not understand.

Every task has a page

  • Open a task and write in it like a document: steps, notes, pictures and attachments all in one place.
  • A task can start from a template that suggests what to write in each part, with its own design.
  • Steps keep who they are when you reword them, and show the day they were done.
  • A bigger task shows its parts as cards on its page, and any step can become a part of its own.
  • The task's history stays folded below the page and tells, in plain words, what was added, renamed, removed or written in each section. Writing in one section for a while counts as one change, not many.
  • Close a task with a short summary, and its page goes to the archive together with it.
  • A routine keeps one page for each round, so what you wrote last time is still there.
  • Search finds what you wrote inside a task's page.
  • Tasks from 1.30 open as their page, with their journal turned into notes.

A new editor for documents

  • Every block is edited exactly as it looks. There is no switching between writing and reading, and a Markdown switch is there if you want to see the source.
  • Type / for a menu of everything you can add. Select words to get a small format bar, or right-click for the same choices.
  • Tables are edited in place, sections can be folded into soft cards, and boxes are ticked right on the page.
  • Footnotes, formulas, callouts, reference links, comments and plain web addresses are kept exactly as you wrote them.
  • A link's definition shows on the page where it was written and can be edited with a click. Links with no preview show as one tidy row with the site's letter.
  • Drag, drop or paste files and pictures to attach them. Videos and audio play on the page, and other files show as cards with their own menu.
  • A card can show another document or one of its pages, with its summary and where it sits.
  • Small drawings and widgets get a bar with their name, a way to see their code and a way to open them on their own.
  • Documents can be laid out on real sheets that turn on their own, keep their paper size and respect page breaks, ready to print or save as PDF.
  • A note's header (front matter) is kept as written, and its title and tags name and file the note.
  • Tags are offered as you type #, and count whether they are in the text or in the header.
  • The reading window shows a document as its finished page, with diagrams, widgets and coloured code, and exports it like any other document.

Bring your notes in, take them out

  • Import Word documents, with their pictures brought in as attachments.
  • Paste a selection from a web page or import a whole page, and it arrives in Tisty's own Markdown.
  • Bring in Obsidian notes with their links, callouts, highlights and icons, and the files they point to. A note linked by its title opens the document here that bears that name.
  • Colours from elsewhere become the closest colour in Tisty's palette.
  • Open a calendar file to bring its events and to-dos in as tasks.
  • Export any document as standard Markdown, a web page or a Word file, or copy it as Markdown.

The Tisty Markdown guide

  • Everything a document can hold, explained with examples, right inside the app: press F1, any ? button or the Help menu.
  • The welcome guide now covers footnotes, maths, folding, tags, the quick bar, tables, cards, media and exports, with a sample page that has one of everything.
  • The same guide is online at markdown.tisty.app.

Settings, rebuilt

  • Five tabs: General, Sync, Your data, Assistants and Maintenance.
  • Maintenance checks everything as soon as you open it and tells you in one line whether something needs a look, with a card for each thing to fix.
  • Freeing space lives in one place, showing what can go and how much it weighs.
  • Make a backup even when you sync with a cloud. If some attachments live only in the cloud, the backup says so.
  • Choose the keys for quick capture, or turn them off.
  • Report a problem from Maintenance or from About: Tisty prepares a file you can read before sharing it, and nothing is sent.

Sync at a glance

  • The foot of the sidebar shows how syncing is going: up to date, syncing, waiting, paused, offline or something to look at.
  • One click syncs now, resumes a pause, or takes you where something needs you.
  • A document you left for later stops asking once another computer settles it.

Leaving a computer, step by step

  • If you want Tisty off a computer, a guided step offers a backup first, lets go of the cloud and leaves the computer clean: settings, cache, log, this computer's keys and starting with the system. Your tasks and documents stay where they are.
  • If another program still has something open, Tisty tells you what stayed so you can remove it yourself.

Meet Tisto

  • Tisto, Tisty's beaver, peeks over the task bar while you write a task, and gives you a thumbs up when you finish one, with a quick way to undo it.
  • Turn Tisto off in Settings, General, if you prefer a quieter window.

Your assistants, ready to help

  • Assistants connected to Tisty can note tasks and documents from the start. If you would rather they did not, close the door in Settings, Assistants.
  • They write a task on its own page, and add notes to a task's page as they work.
  • They tidy what grew: they move parts between tasks and lists, mark copies with a reason instead of deleting them, and condense long documents while telling you how to undo it.
  • Clearer instructions help them tell a task from a document and keep things filed where they belong.
  • Markdown from anywhere reaches Tisty in its own language. When something does not fit, the window shows it and fixes it in one click.
  • The tisty command now only connects assistants (tisty mcp). The other command-line commands are gone.

Safer updates

  • Every update Tisty offers is signed, and Tisty checks the signature before installing it.
  • Tisty only installs from the release channel that its signed feed names.

Smaller things

  • The list filter in Tasks opens over everything and scrolls when the lists do not fit.
  • The links in About are tidier, and the help and report are always one click away.
  • An attachment swapped for another file with the same name is now noticed.
  • Attachments live in one flat folder, which keeps sync simpler.
  • Many fixes to sync, documents and attachments along the way.
