Backwards compatibility

Rescuezilla v2.1.3 creates backups using the Clonezilla image format. Backups created with Rescuezilla v2.0 and newer cannot be restored using prior versions of Rescuezilla. Backups created with older versions of Rescuezilla can still of course be restored with v2.1.3.

Rescuezilla v2.1.3 supports restoring images created by Clonezilla, Rescuezilla, Redo Backup and Recovery v0.9.8-v1.0.4, and the old, unofficial Redo Backup updates by Sourceforge users OAM775, chcatzsf and louvetch.

Rescuezilla does not yet support restoring Redo Rescue 2.x/3.x image format. Support will be added once other higher priorities tasks have been completed.

Bug advisories

Rescuezilla is thoroughly tested using Windows, Linux, and Mac environments. The following are known bugs in v2.1.3. Please regularly consult the following table in case new bugs are discovered.

Severity Tracking # Description Fixed in release
High #208 A user with an unclear RAID configuration has reported using Rescuezilla without making any changes was not able to reboot into his operating system. It's unclear the cause of this, as Rescuezilla (like the industry-standard Clonezilla that it's based on) should not be making any changes to hard drives without first clearly requesting confirmation from the user. Rescuezilla v2.2 has overhauled the RAID user-interface, improved handling of the common filesystem-directly-on-disk case and matched remaining Clonezilla functionality for better support of many corner cases. v2.2
Low #146 Rescuezilla doesn't match Clonezilla's ability to resize the destination filesystems, Clonezilla in some cases automaticallly re-installs the GRUB bootloader, and a few other things. For almost all backup images (including all prior versions of Rescuezilla) these advanced features have not been required for successfully restoring a disk and booting the operating system. The standard Clonezilla program is available from the terminal for advanced users who need to use functionality only available in classic Clonezilla. Rescuezilla v2.2 has implemented this advanced functionality. v2.2
Very low #132 A user with a disk with apparently inconsistent partitioning has issues backup and restoring their drive using Rescuezilla or other tools. Rescuezilla v2.2 automatically handles such issues. v2.2

If you encounter any additional bugs, please report them (ideally with logs) on the GitHub issues page (after searching for duplicate issues). Rescuezilla is developed with your support on Patreon.
