TarPlay Receiver 1.1 beta. Install TarPlay-Receiver-beta-2027-02-03.apk on an Android tablet or head unit (not the phone). It turns that screen into an Android Auto display. This test build stops working on 2027-02-03.
Three ways to connect a phone
- Bluetooth (wireless, nothing to install on the phone): tap Pair a phone, confirm the code, enter the Wi-Fi password once in Settings › Phones, then tap the phone. Android Auto starts over Wi-Fi, as in a car with wireless Android Auto. Needs Android 11+ on the phone and 5 GHz Wi-Fi: home Wi-Fi, or the head unit's own hotspot.
- USB: plug the phone in with a data cable.
- CarCast Launcher: phones running it on the same Wi-Fi show up on the start screen.
Also
- Fills screens that aren't 16:9 (near-square ones in portrait). Resolution, driving side and custom size in Settings › Display.
- Own hotspot, as in a car: set the head unit's hotspot to 5 GHz and enter its name, password and BSSID in Settings › Phones (Android doesn't let apps read the BSSID; a Wi-Fi scanner app on another phone shows it).
- Reconnects Bluetooth by itself a few times if the phone doesn't start Android Auto.
