- Adds Authentic LCD shaders for GB, GBC, and GBA. They draw each handheld's reflective colours, pixel grid, ghosting, and glass. Game Boy offers Game Boy, Pocket, and Light models.
- Brings back battery and thermal improvements via
schedutilCPU governor (except GBA games using mGBA)*. - Builds on upstream v1.12.0, keeping game guides, Reset Game with Undo Reset, Boktai sunlight, Shimmerless, and this fork's existing additions.
Pick Authentic under Settings > Screen > your system > Shader. On Game Boy, the Model row selects the screen. Authentic supplies its own colours and ghosting, so their separate controls are hidden while it is selected. Your existing choices are kept.
A note on schedutil
Following reports of stuttering and removal of this feature from upstream, I investigated it a lot and have settled on disabling it only for a certain case. Because schedutil always worked for GameBoy and GameBoy Color games, as well as GBA games using gpSP core. GBA on mGBA still misses frames under schedutil due to very technical reasons, so slot selects performance mode for that combination only.
End result: perfect gameplay and battery savings preconfigured for you. Just play.
"Authentic" shader screenshots
This new shader mode preserves the original reflective LCD look for GB and GBC games (GBA as well, but it's work-in-progress), as well as enables a GPU-based accurate LCD ghosting.
When this shader is selected, frame blending and colour correction options are removed: they're handled by the shader.
This shader is extremely efficient, more so than the Dot shader and vastly better than the dmg-3x shader from RetroArch that it's inspired by, although I did a lot of research of exact panel measurements others have done and modelled it after the real hardware.
