github preston-peterson/aerodrome v3.4.18

Adds a dedicated /about page reachable from the gear menu on every admin page. The page is project-identity content: a short description of what Aerodrome is and what it does, a link to the GitHub repository for source, issues, and feature requests, the MIT license attribution, and credits to the open-source projects and data sources Aerodrome is built on (readsb / dump1090 / tar1090 for ADS-B reception, hexdb.io for registration lookups, ntfy for push notifications, FastAPI / Uvicorn / SQLite as the runtime stack, Leaflet for map rendering, and OpenStreetMap + CARTO for map data and tiles).

Scope intentionally minimal. The page is static — no fetched runtime data, no hardware probing, no operational stats. That's deliberate: operational/runtime info (uptime, database size, sighting totals, install path) already lives on the Status page, and surfacing it again on /about would have created two-truths-on-two-pages risk if the values ever diverged. The mental model is that /about answers "what is this thing" — the project's identity card — while /status answers "how is it doing right now". Hardware probing (CPU, RAM, disk, USB receiver) was also considered but rejected for this release: it would require platform-specific code (parsing /proc/cpuinfo, /proc/device-tree/model, /sys/bus/usb) with different paths for x86 vs ARM vs Raspberry Pi, and would expand the test matrix across the four tier-1 distros. If hardware info becomes worth surfacing later, it would more naturally fit a future Status panel or its own /hardware page than displace /about's project-identity role.

Navigation: 7-item gear menu. The gear menu (in the top-right corner on every admin page) goes from 6 items to 7. Order: Status, Diagnostics, Logs, Documentation, About (new), Configuration, Check for updates. About is placed adjacent to Documentation since both are meta-info pages about the project itself rather than operational/configuration surfaces. All 11 admin templates were updated consistently (aircraft.html, config.html, diagnostics.html, diagnostics-slow-queries.html, diagnostics-watchlist.html, docs.html, index.html, logs.html, performance.html, status.html, updates.html) so the gear-menu surface stays uniform.

Visual style matches the rest of the app. Three card sections (About / License / Built with) on the standard dark background, cyan section-header treatment in caps to match Status and Logs, the same header bar with brand, version pill, and gear menu. The dependency credits list uses a responsive two-column grid that collapses to one column on narrow viewports.

Test contract for v3.4.18:

  1. Page loads. Visit /about directly. Page should render with three sections and the standard Aerodrome header.
  2. Gear menu navigation. From any admin page (Status, Logs, Configuration, etc.), open the gear menu — there should be a new "About" item between Documentation and Configuration. Clicking it should navigate to /about.
  3. GitHub link works. The link to github.com/preston-peterson/aerodrome should open in a new tab when clicked.
  4. Theme switching still works. Toggle between dark/light themes via the gear menu's Theme segmented control — the about page should respect the choice like every other page.

Scope:

  • templates/about.html (new file, ~180 lines including style block and JS)
  • server.py — /about route added next to /documentation (~4 lines)
  • 11 admin templates updated with the new gear-menu item (one line each)
  • scripts/screenshots.py — added screenshot_about to the harness (~8 lines + 1 in the renderer list)
  • 90 endpoints (was 89). 1 new HTML page (13 total, was 12). No schema changes. SUDOERS_VERSION unchanged at 4.
