Talk with your databases, get realistic anonymized copies, and bbdump on Windows (beta).
New
- Chat with a database. The AI chat button on each database card opens a chat about it
with the AI tool already on your computer (Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode, with your own
account) or a local model (Ollama, LM Studio). The AI only reads, through bbdump's MCP server
limited to that database, without its own shell, file or web tools. Answers come as key
figures, charts and tables, with the SQL behind them, and each step the AI took can be
unfolded.- You see what the AI gets: read only, the columns anonymized for AI and where the data
goes stay in sight. When a result could hide personal data, the chat asks you first, column
by column, showing what the AI would see once anonymized: send it, anonymize, or block it. - History: conversations are kept per database, encrypted on the computer, for 30 days
after their last message; a pinned one is kept for good. They can be reopened and
continued. The history can be turned off in the AI settings, where you also choose the tool
and its model.

- Windows (beta). An installer for Windows 10 and 11 (x64 and ARM64) that updates itself.
Remote, cloud and SSH databases, or PostgreSQL on this computer: bbdump installs the server
with winget (its password generated and kept encrypted), starts it when needed, and installs
extensions (PostGIS, TimescaleDB) from their official Windows builds. The client tools install
in one click, and the AI assistants connect as on macOS and Linux. The installer is not signed
yet: on "Windows protected your PC", choose More info → Run anyway.
Changed
- More realistic anonymization, with nothing to install on the server. Anonymized copies,
"Update from…" and anonymization for AI can give realistic fakes: first and last names, full
names, emails (camille.martin.3f2a@example.com), cities and street addresses, instead of
Person 3F2A1C. Numbers can get ±10 % noise and dates ±30 days, or dates be rounded to the
month or year; birth dates keep only their year by default. The same value always gives the
same fake, so links between tables hold. - Anonymization for AI asks less often. A computed column made only of values written in
the query, or computed from tables without any anonymized column (views included), now
reaches the AI without a question.
Fixed
- AI assistants read dates one day early. Through MCP, a
datecolumn (and a timestamp
without time zone) was sent as UTC: 2026-09-01 became "2026-08-31T22:00Z" in France. Dates now
come exactly as stored.
Upgrading
- macOS from 1.1.2: bbdump updates itself ("Download update", then "Install and restart").
From 1.1.0 or 1.1.1, install once with the script or the DMG below. - Linux: the AppImage updates itself; for the .deb, install the new package.
- Windows: download
bbdump-1.3.0-setup.exebelow. - AI clients: restart them after updating, so they start the new MCP server.
