Work on real databases without exposing the people in them.
New
- Duplicate a database with its personal data anonymized. In the duplicate dialog, turn on
"Anonymize personal data": columns that look personal (email, phone, name, address, IP…) are
chosen for you and partly starred by default, keeping their shape
(bob1234@email.fr→****234@email.fr). Each column can also become a fake value, a masked
one or NULL, and a table can be copied without its rows (sessions and tokens are empty by
default). A column linked by a foreign key follows the one it points to, and unique columns
stay unique. The rows are streamed with the chosen columns already replaced: the real values
never reach your computer, and no backup of the source is made. - Anonymize for AI assistants. In a database's ⋯ menu, "Anonymize for AI" chooses the
columns that AI clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor… through MCP) only see anonymized. It is off
by default and applies at once. When a result holds text whose origin is unknown (a computed
column, a view, free SQL), bbdump shows it to you first in the tray, with a few values: send
it, anonymize some or all columns, or block it. The database itself is never changed. - What's new, version by version. A short tour presents 1.2 after updating, and the Info
page lists every tour with "See again".
Upgrading
- macOS from 1.1.2: bbdump updates itself ("Download update", then "Install and restart").
- macOS from 1.1.0 or 1.1.1: install 1.2.0 once with the install script or the DMG below;
from then on, bbdump updates itself. - AI clients: restart them after updating, so they start the new MCP server.
