A fix for backups and duplicates of databases on older PostgreSQL servers.
Fixed
- Backing up or duplicating a database failed with "pg_dump version mismatch" when its
server was older than every installed pg_dump — for example a PostgreSQL 16 server on a
machine with pg_dump 17 and 18. pg_dump reads servers of its own version and older ones:
bbdump still prefers the same major version, and otherwise uses the closest newer one.
When the server's version cannot be detected, the newest pg_dump is used instead of the
system default. - The error now only appears when every installed pg_dump is older than the server, and it
gives the command to install the right one (e.g.brew install postgresql@18).
Install
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/poup-s/bbdump/main/install.sh | bashOr download the file for your system below. Coming from 1.0.2 on macOS: reinstall once
(unsigned builds cannot update themselves); see the 1.1.0 notes.
