A large update of bbdump: remote databases (SSH and cloud), backups you can rely on, a
restore that really restores, and an AI integration with a safety net. Every page was
redone. The full list is in CHANGELOG.md.
Install
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/poup-s/bbdump/main/install.sh | bashOr download the file for your system below: bbdump-1.1.0-arm64.dmg (Apple Silicon),
bbdump-1.1.0.dmg (Intel), .AppImage / .deb for Linux (beta).
Coming from 1.0.2 on macOS: builds are not signed yet, so 1.0.2 cannot update itself.
Reinstall once with the command above or the DMG; your configuration is migrated
automatically. From 1.1.0 on, "Download update" opens the release page. If macOS says the
app is damaged, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/bbdump.app once.
macOS 13 (Ventura) or later is now required. On macOS 12, stay on 1.0.2.
What's new
- Databases on a server, through SSH. bbdump opens the tunnel itself with your own
ssh(aliases, keys, agent,known_hosts,ProxyJump), reads the credentials from the
server's.env— or finds that file with "Search the server" — and shares the tunnel with
backups, the explorer, the project proxy and the MCP server. - Cloud databases. Guides for Supabase, Neon, Railway and Render; Neon by API key;
checks on pasted URLs (provider, SSL, placeholder password, pooler). - Backups you can rely on. Every dump is read back with
pg_restore; retention; start
at login and catch-up of runs missed while the app was closed; history per database;
every backup folder listed. - Restore replaces the content. The schemas in the backup are emptied first, in one
transaction; errors are reported; the target is backed up before (on by default). - Update from… Refresh a local database from another one of its project: schema
diff, missing rows, anonymization of personal data, preview before applying. - MCP server 1.1. 45 tools and 4 prompts, one-click install for Claude, Codex, Cursor,
VS Code, Windsurf and OpenCode, every write confirmed in the app, AI journal and undo. - Explorer. Every schema, tables in tabs, no full count on big tables, ~90 extensions.
- SSL modes and CA certificates, e.g. AWS RDS with
verify-fullandglobal-bundle.pem. - New onboarding for macOS and Linux ("remote databases only" needs no local
PostgreSQL server), redesigned pages, dialogs and notifications, and a "What's new"
tour for users coming from 1.0.
Under the hood
- Electron 28 → 44.
- Atomic writes of
config.json, with a backup copy; configurations from 1.0.2 are
migrated automatically and stay readable by 1.0.2. - Security: passwords moved out of connection URLs and encrypted, read-only SQL mode
limited to single statements, token on the local confirmation server, no guessing of
common passwords, links opened in the system browser, Content-Security-Policy. - The install script verifies the download against the published SHA-512 checksum.
- Tests and CI on every push.
