v1.9.3-248
Beta 8
Stats
- Fix - A crash when Android relaunched the app in the background no longer splits listening into dozens of duplicate sessions that inflate your listening stats (#352)
Search
- Fix - Searching a library with more than 10,000 books now finds the newest books too, in the app and in Android Auto (#349)
Transcription
- New - Transcription runs faster: a book's language is detected once and remembered instead of every single time, and a voice-detection pass that cost more than the transcribing itself is gone
- New - A new Base model (about 57 MB) sits between Tiny and Small, and the app picks the best downloaded model for each job on its own - the quickest one when the book's ebook supplies the exact words, the most accurate one you have when the transcript stands alone. Download one or all three and the picking takes care of itself
- Fix - Choosing Keep reading after finding your spot in the audiobook no longer opens the full screen player over the e-reader
- New - When a book has an ebook, transcribing a bookmark can swap Whisper's text for the ebook's exact words - a confident match means a word-perfect note (toggle in the transcribe popup)
- Fix - Transcribing bookmarks and finding your position now work for books downloaded to a custom Android folder, instead of asking you to download the book first
- Fix - Jumping between the ebook and audiobook could give up when a book spells out its chapter numbers ("Thirty-Nine" was mistaken for "Nine") or reuses chapter names between characters
- Fix - Transcribing a bookmark, finding your spot in the ebook and exporting a clip could start up to half a minute before the bookmark on MP3 files
Reading
- Fix - Very large illustrated ebooks crashed the app when opened
- New - Tap a highlight to change its color, add or edit its note, share it as a quote card, find that spot in the audiobook, or remove it
- Fix - A highlight could draw a few lines away from its own text when the book opened, most often on a device the highlight synced to
- Fix - The reader's settings sheet can now be swiped closed
Tips
- New - Tips & Hidden Features in Settings catches up on everything recent: transcription, jumping between formats, quote sharing, clip export, volume-key page turns and more
Bookmarks
- Fix - A bookmark note synced through the server now comes back apart as title and note on your other devices, instead of one long title
- Fix - Opening a book's bookmarks now pulls the latest from the server even when the book isn't playing
- Fix - Listen on a bookmark now plays on very long single-file audiobooks instead of erroring
- Fix - Podcast bookmarks now stay with the episode you made them on, and Listen, Transcribe and Export clip work on them. They travel between your devices in the settings backup, since the server has nowhere to keep an episode's bookmarks
- New - The bookmark button in Android Auto and CarPlay now works on podcast episodes
E-ink devices
- New - An e-ink mode under Settings > Appearance
- light flat monochrome look, no animations or ripples, dark covers lifted so they keep detail on e-paper, and the live server connection rests to save battery
- New - Physical page-turn buttons (like the Boox Palma's side button) flip pages in the reader. Outside the reader screen, they play or pause the current book
Shortcuts
- New - Hold any tab in the bottom bar to pick what it does
- Set it once per tab, or pick "Always show menu" to get the list every time (all of it under Settings > Advanced)
Podcasts
- Fix - Up Next now shows the episode you're partway through plus the next one waiting in that show, for every show you've started, instead of only episodes already started
- Fix - The Finished filter on the Episodes tab lists your finished episodes instead of always coming back empty
Book stats
- New - Listening stats at the bottom of a book's details: your time, sessions, and first and last listen. Admins also see everyone on the server - who started it, who finished it, and how long they spent
Backup & sync
- Fix - Restoring a backup that turns settings sync on now asks whether the server's copy or the backup wins, instead of quietly pushing the older backup to your other devices
Covers
- New - The full-screen cover view closes with a tap or a swipe, not just the X button
