v1.12.1-300
Beta 1
EPUB3 narration (#379)
- New - EPUB3 books that read themselves aloud play like audiobooks. Listen, read, or turn on read along to follow each sentence as it's spoken
- New - Highlight a sentence and tap Play from here. Opening the reader goes to what you're hearing, and reading ahead moves the audio to your page
- New - On Audiobookshelf the narration downloads before it plays. A queue stops before one that isn't downloaded instead of skipping it, and offers the download when you start the book before it
- New - Find in ebook and bookmark text use the book's own words, so no transcription is needed
Narrated EPUB3s on Audiobookshelf
Audiobookshelf doesn't support narrated EPUB3s on its own. Absorb fills in what it can, but a few things look different on the server:
- Note - Audiobookshelf sees these books as ebooks, so it shows no length for them: on the book, in playlists and on listening sessions. Your progress keeps the real length, and time listened still counts in your stats
- Note - The Audiobookshelf web app and other apps put them in Continue Reading even when you're listening. Absorb shows them in Continue Listening
- Note - The Audiobookshelf web app and its own apps can't play the narration, they only open the book to read
Reading and listening
- New - Keep reading and listening in sync (Settings, Transcription). Stop listening and the ebook moves to where you stopped, leave the reader and the audiobook moves to your page
- New - A Sync position button in a book's details when automatic sync is off, and a warning when a sync can't find your place
- New - Count reading time in stats, in the reader's Tt menu
- New - History tab in the reader's bookmarks, so you can get back to pages you left
Reader
- New - The top bar can show progress for the chapter, the book, or both (Tt menu)
- Fix - BookOrbit books open on the right page and no longer overwrite the spot saved on BookOrbit (#299)
- Fix - Scroll mode no longer slides sideways while scrolling
Home
- New - Continue Reading uses the same big cards as Continue Listening, and now shows on BookOrbit too
- New - Option to open a book's details instead of playing when you tap it on Home (Settings, Library)
iPhone
- New - Siri: "Play [book] in Absorb", resume, pause, skip, chapters, sleep timer, bookmarks and "What's playing"
Other
- Fix - The Read button on an ebook-only book shows how far you've read
- Fix - No more dark gap under the search bar on the iPad library tabs
