This release builds on the last two 0.2 releases by adding in a ton of performance improvements!
How to run:
- First ensure you have a commercial copy of Duke 3D installed somewhere (Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is ideal for normal map support, but not required)
- Unzip the release package
- Launch via launch-duke-rt.cmd exclusively, do not launch via Raze.exe
- Follow the instructions if it's your first run
- Find your Duke 3D install
- Find and copy over your normal maps (if you are using Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour)
- Download and copy over voxels
- ENJOY
This release cumulatively adds:
- Complete voxel replacement support
- Voxel preload system to smooth out the runtime experience
- Episode 2 and 3 material remastering pass
- Episode 2 lighting pass
- Big performance overhaul pass to reduce CPU times on large levels with lots of geometry churn (E1L4, E2L8)
- Frame times reduced by up to 80% in some cases
- Better install and launch experience with better Duke3d.grp discovery and voxel download helper
- Fix for places where the floor or ceiling would get holes, like E2L1
Known Issues:
- Start of first level kinda chugs - I need to improve the preload process
- Enemies disappear in the big arena of map E2L8
- Battlelord corpses rotate toward the player as you move, which is weird with voxels
