Linter v2.0.0-rc-1
This change moves linting off of the main thread where possible. It tries to make it so that you most of the burden is moved to web workers. This helps with allowing users to be able to do other things while Linter is linting a file. However that also means that if a user modifies a file that Linter is attempting to lint, the lint changes will be discarded and a notice should be shown. So keep that in mind. This doesn't move obsidian commands off of the main thread as they have to run on the main thread due to how they work. So if you use obsidian commands, they should be fixed up to be a little more reliable, however you will still see it open the sidebar tab any time you are mass linting the vault.
This change also has a few breaking changes:
- Old YAML formats for tags and aliases are no longer supported: only single line and multi-line arrays are officially supported now
- The
aliasandtagkeys are no longer supported by Linter and should instead usealiasesandtags
Both of these changes were made by Obsidian a ways back and Linter is now following in their footsteps. If you used some of the old formats, make sure to set the alias and tag array formats you want in the general settings and run the Format Converter Obsidian command in order to convert any existing keys in your vault over to a compatible format.
A couple of caveats:
- The bundle size of Linter doubles in this release due to how the code is written and how web workers work. I have a couple ideas on how to cut down on the size of the plugin, but that requires work that did not fit in my schedule for October.
- The web worker can die if an error happens that is not handled on it. I have done my best to minimize the likely hood of this happening. But if for some reason the web worker stops responding, there is a new command in the plugin to restart the worker, so please use that in those cases. If it is reproducible, a bug report would help make sure that these scenarios are rare.
- Web workers may cause a little performance overhead on large files (something like more than 500KB for a file size), but that is not yet confirmed or tracked down, so do be mindful of that as well
Beyond that, I think that sums up the changes here. I hope that you enjoy the new release and it helps make things appear faster for you.
