Getting a file into a note — and opening it again afterwards.
Two reports made the same point from opposite ends, and behind both sat a rule
that existed in exactly one place: an attachment was handed to the operating
system when you clicked it in the file tree, and nowhere else. Every other
route to the same file — a [[link]], a bookmark, the recents list, the tag
tree, backlinks, a split, the graph, a peek — loaded it into the editor instead.
On the phone a tap on [[Report.pdf]] did not resolve at all and created a new
note Report.pdf.md: the vault gained a file from merely looking at one.
Fixed
- Attachments open in your system's default program from every route. The
decision now lives in one shared function that every renderer of a vault path
asks — held together by a test that reads the source, not a mock. On the phone
no stray.mdnote is created any more. (#55) - The attachments folder is honoured on mobile even when the note sits in the
vault root; dropping a file on the mobile editor takes any file, not only
images.
Added
- Paste takes any file (
Ctrl+V) — a PDF or a spreadsheet just as much as
an image. The drop path already did; the rule was written twice and the two
had drifted apart. (#55) - A file picker in both shells: the slash command Attach file…, the same
entry in the note's ⋮ menu, and on the phone the + sheet. Images embed
(![[…]]), everything else is linked ([[…]]).
(#56) [[suggests attachments too, below the notes and under their own
heading. The label is the full file name; what is inserted is the path —
an attachment carries no frontmatter title, and the bare stem would silently
resolve to a note of the same name. (#56)
Changed — please note
- Text-decodable attachments (
.csv,.svg,.txt) now open externally.
They used to load into the editor as a fully editable buffer — a route that
was never advertised and could write a file whose format Plainva does not own.
Opening more text formats inside Plainva is planned separately, not dropped.
