Native wrist HUD — experimental headset test (2026-09-29)

pre-release6 hours ago

Experimental headset test of native wrist HUD capture, VR options, hand preferences and optional body equipment.

Download PreyVR-native-wrist-test-20260929.zip, extract into a new folder, connect your headset/OpenXR runtime and run Start Prey VR.cmd. Steam must be running. This targets the supported Steam build of Prey (2017).

Enable the wrist: load a save, hold left Menu for about one second, then choose Equipment → Wrist Status → On. Close options, resume gameplay, raise your left palm toward your face and look at the wrist. Wrist status defaults off; the included README has the complete test checklist. F12 or both grips + left Y recenters.

Validation: the packaged DLL passed 50 offline tests and a brief in-game simulator check produced 1,493 wrist-layer frames with zero native capture faults/refusals. Capture stopped with the wrist lowered and resumed when raised; pause suppressed its layer. Headset appearance is not yet verified. Simulator panels looked distorted, with a suspected compositor matrix-layout issue; this is not a claim that the headset visuals pass.

Please check both-eye readability, placement, hiding/reappearance, health/psi/suit updates, unwanted HUD content, weapon changes and save/load. The forward HUD remains available. Other new gameplay gestures are optional and default off.

Source: codex/vr-options, release commit b65cf964e34d9c6cb82902ac19cd3a5e9c177c5f; the tested DLL is unchanged from 27b15fe.
