Installing from a link is much faster, there is now a third way to do it,
and "skip the certificate check" actually works.
- Links install about 65% faster. Measured installing a 101 GB game: 108
MB/s, against 65 MB/s before, and it no longer slows to a crawl part way
through. ps5upload was getting in its own way — dropping and reopening
connections that were already fast, fetching the same piece of the file over
and over, and piling on more connections when the site was already
struggling. It now downloads about as many bytes as the game actually is,
instead of roughly six times that. - New: download the package first, then install it. The third choice
alongside letting the PS5 fetch the link and streaming it through this
computer. It is the one to pick when a link keeps dying part way through:
the download finishes on its own and can be retried by itself, and the
install afterwards never touches the internet. It needs room on your disk
for the package; the other two do not. - "Skip the certificate check" was doing nothing. Ticking it made no
difference — the setting never reached the downloader. Fixed, and checked
against a server with a self-signed certificate: off it refuses, on it
downloads. It still applies only when this computer is downloading, since
the PS5 checks certificates itself. - A clearer message when the PS5 refuses a link. The console's installer
will not accept a link longer than 127 characters, and many library links
are longer than that. It used to say something about re-adding the package
to your library, which made no sense for a pasted link. It now explains the
length limit and points you at the two options that do not have it. - Cancelling a link download now deletes the half-finished file instead of
leaving something that looks like a real package. - For developers: the app can be built and smoke-tested on a headless Android
emulator, so Android changes no longer need a phone plugged in.
