github petersulyok/smfc v6.5.0

Added

  • Support of Python 3.15 added. It is in the classifiers and in the test matrix.
  • RPM package for Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream, Oracle Linux). EPEL is not required, because python3-pyudev is in the BaseOS repository of EL10. Add smfc-el.repo to install it, see README chapter 9.2.

Changed

  • Each RPM target has its own package and repository. The release workflow builds one RPM with mock for each target: Fedora 43 (.fc43), Fedora 44 (.fc44) and Enterprise Linux 10 (.el10). Each RPM depends on the Python version of its target. The Fedora RPMs are in fedora/$releasever/ of the RPM repository, and the EL10 RPM is in el10/. If your /etc/yum.repos.d/smfc.repo contains baseurl=https://petersulyok.github.io/smfc-rpm/ (without fedora/), replace it with sudo dnf config-manager addrepo --overwrite --from-repofile=https://petersulyok.github.io/smfc-rpm/smfc.repo. The old repository receives updates only for a limited time.
  • openSUSE is no longer listed as compatible with the RPM package, because smfc.spec uses Fedora macros and package names. On openSUSE, use the Docker image or the manual installation (see README chapters 9.4 and 9.5).
  • The supported Python versions are 3.11-3.15 now. Python 3.10 is no longer supported. Distributions with an older default Python are no longer supported: Ubuntu 22.04, Linux Mint 21, Pop!_OS 22.04, RHEL/CentOS Stream/Rocky Linux/AlmaLinux 9 and openSUSE Leap 15.
  • smfc names all base fan modes of X14/H14 boards in the log, the snapshot and smfc-client: PUE3 (0x05), LIQUID COOLING (0x06), SMART (0x07), PUE (0x08), SMART COOLING (0x09), PERFORMANCE (0x0A) and SILENT (0x0B). Before, these modes showed as UNKNOWN. Mode 0x03 is named PUE2 now, its Supermicro name, so that it is different from PUE (0x08).
  • GitHub Actions in the package workflows run on Node.js 24 now, because GitHub deprecated Node.js 20. packages.yml uses actions/upload-artifact@v7 and actions/download-artifact@v8, and the publish workflows of smfc-deb and smfc-rpm use actions/checkout@v6. download-artifact@v8 stops with an error on a hash mismatch, where the earlier version only gave a warning.

Fixed

  • The RPM package could not be installed on Enterprise Linux 10, e.g. on AlmaLinux 10 with EPEL, with nothing provides python3.14dist(pyudev) needed by smfc-6.1.0-1.fc44.noarch. The only RPM was built on Fedora 44, so it required Python 3.14 and the pyudev package of Python 3.14, but EL10 has Python 3.12. A separate .el10 RPM is built for EL10 now (see Added). Reported by @baka-yuki in smfc-rpm issue #1, with a first solution in smfc-rpm PR #2.
