v2.6.1 - A failing NR runtime no longer blocks the start, recording codec, borderless windows

Warning

NeuralScreen requires the latest NVIDIA driver. Operation with older drivers or unsupported/non-standard configurations is not guaranteed.

A new NR runtime that does not run on your card no longer stops NeuralScreen from starting, the recording codec is a choice, and a framed game window can be made borderless over its monitor.

Fixes

  • Frame Generation with "Protect the interface in FG" no longer closes the program (#177). The protection read the screen's small grey copy in the wrong shape and raised an error the moment FG came on. It reads it in its real shape now, and a failure in it turns it off for the session with one notice instead of ending NeuralScreen. This archive was re-uploaded on 2026-10-19 with this fix; if you downloaded 2.6.1 earlier and use FG with the protection, download it again (the SHA256 differs).
  • A runtime in native\libraries\ that does not run on this card no longer blocks the start (#175). NVIDIA's official NR runtime 310.9.16 loads on an RTX 3060 Ti and then refuses to create the feature (0xBAD00002); the start-up check failed and stopped the program, which read as a crash. NeuralScreen now tries its bundled runtime, starts with it and says so in a notice. The official 310.9.16 does not run on RTX 30; on newer cards it does, and the NR preset A / B switch from 2.6.0 selects its old or new model.

New

  • Recording codec (Settings -> Media, #174): Auto (as before - AV1, then HEVC, then H.264), AV1, HEVC or H.264. Auto picks AV1 on RTX 40/50, which Premiere Pro does not import. A named codec that does not open falls back to H.264; H.264 records SDR even with HDR on.
  • Borderless, full monitor (Source block, one-window mode, #176): takes the frame off the captured window and sizes the window itself to its monitor - for games with no borderless mode. A second click, or quitting NeuralScreen, puts the frame, the size and the place back.

Tests

Full suite: 325 pass, 5 fail, 6 skipped; GUI-E2E 14/14. The five: the runtime manifest (re-pinned by this release), two tests that needed the new setting (updated), and test_fg_waitable_drain and test_gpu_recorder, native and unchanged since 2.6.0, with RTSS hooking Present on this bench. The bundled-runtime fallback was checked on the GPU: with the library runtime set aside, the worker takes the bundled one.
