Warning
This is an in-development test build, not meant for general use. It exists so the people in the linked issue can test a fix and give feedback, and it may have bugs that the regular release doesn't. If you aren't taking part in testing this build on that issue, please use the latest release instead.
This is a test build for #40 (frame rate on the Steam Deck and other handhelds). It's not a release, and it will tell you when Beta 5 is out: switch to Beta 5 then.
What's new in it: everything on Beta 5 so far, plus a bigger change to how the graphics work is split across the CPU. A second thread now makes the graphics driver calls, so the main graphics thread has much less to do each frame. On our test PC this cut the graphics thread's CPU time by about two thirds; on the Deck it should mean 60 fps holds in more places. Also included: the descriptor reuse and other per-draw savings.
How to use it (Steam Deck / Linux): download the x86_64 AppImage, make it executable, set up your game files on its start screen, and press Play. If anything goes wrong, you can turn the new thread off with LARECOMP_VK_RECORDER=0 %command% in the launch options and tell us whether that changes it.
Please report on #40: how Mabe Village and busy areas feel at 1x, and attach lasrecomp.log from the LAS Recomp data folder. One run with LARECOMP_LOG_PACE=1 %command% in the launch options shows us exactly where the time goes.
