Warning
This is an in-development test build, not meant for general use. It exists so the people in the linked issue can test a fix and give feedback, and it may have bugs that the regular release doesn't. If you aren't taking part in testing this build on that issue, please use the latest release instead.
This test build is for #509: shader preparation taking 44-54 seconds on every launch on AMD graphics cards. It is the current Beta 6 work plus one change: on AMD's drivers the game now saves each prepared shader's compiled result itself (in cache/vk_binaries) and loads it at the next launch, instead of relying on the driver's own cache, which didn't keep it. Other graphics cards work as before. If it offers to update, skip that while you test.
On Windows, unzip it into a new folder and keep your normal install as it is. Set up your game files from the start screen as before.
What to try (attach lasrecomp.log from the data folder after each run):
- Run 1 (cold start): start the game and note how long shader preparation takes. It will be slow this time, as it compiles and saves everything. Play a minute, then quit normally, and copy
lasrecomp.logsomewhere else (the next start replaces it). - Run 2 (warm start): start it again and note how long shader preparation takes now. It should be a few seconds.
