New
- Crest 0.7 brings Chromium and WebKit together on Mac, with Chrome Web Store extensions and engine choices for each website. iPhone and iPad continue to use WebKit.
Improved
- Pause and resume Chromium downloads, and recover interrupted transfers when the server supports it.
- Chromium can show local service-worker and extension notifications while Crest runs, with Space access and notification permissions respected.
Fixed
- Screen sharing works in Slack huddles and in Slack's call test on pages that run in Chromium. As in Chrome, a site can ask to share your screen without a click of its own, and macOS still asks what to share.
- Tabs take the title a page gives itself after it finishes loading. A link you open in the background with Command-click, or a page that shows “Loading…” first, no longer stays named by its address or placeholder.
- Pages in Chromium that have no title of their own show the site’s name, as WebKit pages do, instead of their full address. A Chromium tab that reloads in the background keeps its title.
- Downloads follow the Automatic Downloads choice of the site you’re on, including files it serves from another address, such as GitHub release files. A blocked download’s message no longer appears twice.
- Chromium pages use your default zoom when they open and keep your chosen zoom as you navigate.
- Chromium is updated to 154.0.8037.57 with upstream security and compatibility fixes.
- Protected-video pages still switch to WebKit automatically. Engine switches respect unsaved-changes prompts and remember the website only after the move is allowed.
- Interrupted Chromium profile upgrades resume safely without losing track of your existing browsing profiles.
- Crest updates advertise the macOS version the whole app requires, so older Macs are not offered an incompatible update.
Stable releases are signed, notarized, and ready for everyday use.
