Improved
- In the Chromium build, camera, microphone, location, Bluetooth and passkey prompts name Crest instead of Chromium, and Crest no longer includes a helper app that could appear as “Chromium” in Notifications settings.
- In the Chromium build, tabs running in WebKit now show a small WebKit badge on their icon, so you can see at a glance which pages use WebKit.
- Sign-in and other popup windows a page opens now appear in a Quick Window in the same Space, stay connected to the page that opened them, and close themselves when the sign-in finishes. Choose Open in to keep one as a tab.
- The WebKit badge on tab icons is clearer: it now shows a small blue-and-orange tile, which also appears beside WebKit in Site Controls' Opens in menu.
Fixed
- The back-to-tab button in a Picture in Picture video now brings Crest forward on the video's own tab, switching window or Space if needed, in both the Chromium and WebKit builds. When you go back to that tab yourself, the video leaves Picture in Picture and returns to its place on the page, whether it floated automatically or you floated it.
- Dragging at the very top of a page, like selecting text or using YouTube's search box, no longer moves the window. The sidebar, the strip above the page and the space around it, and the top of a Quick Window, still move the window and do what your title bar double-click setting says.
- A sign-in window, a new tab or a Peek that a page opens now stays on that page's engine, so signing in with Google from a page moved to WebKit opens one sign-in page that finishes the sign-in, instead of several Chromium tabs.
- Locking a protected Space, including when Crest goes to the background, now always closes that Space's Picture in Picture video.
- Window › Move & Resize, the Globe-Control tiling shortcuts and the green button's tiling options work for Crest windows again, while dragging at the very top of a page still selects text instead of moving the window. Double-clicking empty sidebar space opens a new tab again, without also acting as a title bar double-click.
- A page that opens an empty window first and fills it in afterwards, as some sign-in buttons do, gets its window again instead of nothing. A link or script that opens a new window from a Quick Window or Peek loads in that window again, with Back and Forward, and a form posted that way keeps what it sent.
- Continue with Google and other sign-in popups open their Quick Window again in a window you closed and opened again, instead of doing nothing.
- A window you close while a Quick Window over it stays open no longer answers for the window that opens again in its place, so tabs and pop-ups a page opens show in the window you are using.
Experimental builds are signed and notarized snapshots from the selected branch (chromium-control-plane). They may be less reliable than development or stable releases.
