Changes since last release
From CHANGELOG.md, 2026-10-28:
Upstream v4.29.0
- Cowork finds QEMU again on RHEL 9, Rocky, Alma and NixOS. v4.29.0 only accepts
/usr/bin/qemu-system-<arch>and no longer searches$PATH, so Cowork said "requires QEMU" where QEMU lives elsewhere (RHEL'sqemu-kvmthrough our shim, the Nix store,/usr/local/bin).fix_cowork_firmware_paths_linuxnow triesCLAUDE_QEMU_PATH, then/usr/bin, then$PATH; the Nix package setsCLAUDE_QEMU_PATH, and--diagnosereports the same order. - The third-party setup window is patched again. v4.29.0 ships it as
resources/ion-dist.asarinstead of a directory; the build now extracts, patches and repacks it, and a missing or unexpected layout fails the build instead of skipping both ion-dist patches. - Hung window: upstream now reloads by itself. v4.29.0 expires the watchdog's tokens and re-checks 30 s after a kill attempt, so a renderer death after an attempt no longer leaves the window blank until quit; our hand-off of that death to the reload path (
fix_renderer_clean_exit_reloadsub-patch C) is retired. The SIGKILL fallback stays: on Linux the kill attempt asks the renderer to crash itself, which does nothing when the whole renderer process is stalled. The clean-exit reload (#287) and the log line for suppressed deaths (fix_renderer_gone_suppressed_log) stay too; upstream still drops both silently. - Re-fitted to v4.29.0: Computer Use lock acquire (
fix_computer_use_linux), the remaining renderer sub-patches, and transcript limits (add_feature_transcript_limits, which now also covers Cowork VM transcript copies through the same reader). - Extra -> Deployment lists the new managed keys
inferenceTokenWarningPercentanduserFileUploadsEnabled. - Audited: feature flags (635 -> 672), platform gates (no new macOS/Windows-only feature that Linux lacks), built-in MCP servers, and the deployment-key, custom-models, quick-open and panel-tabs anchors. Locale files and
claude-browser-shim.jsmoved intoapp.asarupstream; nothing of ours reads them.
