Changes since last release

From CHANGELOG.md, 2026-10-26:

Computer Use: open_application starts Flatpak apps, Chromium web apps and env-wrapped launchers (#297)

  • open_application now runs the launcher's whole Exec line, on wlroots, GNOME and X11 sessions (KDE Wayland sessions use kwin-portal-bridge's own launcher and were not affected). Until now it started only the bare binary, so a Flatpak app, a Chromium web app or a launcher written as env VAR=1 app opened nothing. The line is parsed as the Desktop Entry spec defines it (field codes, quoting, Path=, TryExec, a leading BOM, GIO's lenient backslash handling) and run as an argv array, with no shell.
  • Fallbacks when there is no usable Exec, the launcher is Terminal=true, or its binary is missing: gio launch, gtk-launch, kioclient6/kioclient5 exec and exo-open, in that order, whichever is installed (none is required); terminal launchers then also try xdg-terminal-exec, x-terminal-emulator -e and $TERMINAL -e.
  • App discovery also scans the Snap and NixOS app dirs. listInstalledApps reports each app's real id instead of an env or flatpak alias, and a match on the app name or desktop id now wins over one on the executable name. Covered by the new test-cu-open-app-exec.mjs and an extended test-cu-xdg-appdirs.mjs.

Computer Use: fallback screenshots and zoom land where the model points on scaled outputs (#298)

  • The Electron desktopCapturer fallback no longer crops a letterboxed thumbnail as if it were 1:1, which put zoom regions about 1.7x off on a fractionally scaled output. It captures at the monitor's physical size, picks the source by display_id, else by a unique aspect-ratio match, else the primary display (with a log line saying so), and crops relative to that display.
  • Fallback screenshots and zooms are downscaled with the bridges' rule (long edge at most 1568 px, at most 1.15 MP), so the model sees one coordinate frame whichever backend answered. Covered by the new test-cu-capture-fallback.mjs.
  • wlroots-bridge waits up to 2 s for screencopy instead of returning before Hyprland had copied the frame (fixed in patrickjaja/wlroots-bridge; the next build picks it up).

A hung Claude window recovers by itself (#299)

  • On Linux, Electron's forcefullyCrashRenderer() cannot stop a hung renderer, so upstream's "Main webview is unresponsive, will kill and reload" did nothing, and each attempt left a token that later suppressed the real killed event: the window stayed frozen until a full restart. A killed or crashed that arrives with such a token pending now goes through upstream's own reload path, including its limit of 3 reloads in 5 minutes and the "keeps crashing" overlay.
  • If the view is still hung 5 s after the watchdog's attempt and a 2 s liveness probe gets no answer, the renderer is SIGKILLed, so the view recovers by itself about 7 s after the watchdog fires. A probe that answers cancels the kill. The same failure is reported against Claude Code in anthropics/claude-code#97259 and #99142. fix_renderer_clean_exit_reload.nim carries this; covered by an extended test-renderer-clean-exit.mjs.
