Changes since last release

From CHANGELOG.md, 2026-10-18:

Empty Quick Entry bar and collapsed code: no system font (#281, #282)

  • An empty Quick Entry bar that drops typing, and inline code that collapses to a text-less pill, come
from a session in which fontconfig finds no fonts.
claude.ai text still renders because it ships its
own web fonts, but the Quick Entry window, code in transcripts and every fallback glyph need a system
font, and without one the text has no size. Reproduced on Bazzite 44 with the real app by pointing
FONTCONFIG_FILE at an empty configuration: both screenshots from the reports appear, pixel for pixel.
    claude-desktop --diagnose gains a Fonts section (FONTCONFIG_FILE, FONTCONFIG_PATH,
FONTCONFIG_SYSROOT, fc-match sans-serif and monospace, the fc-list count) and names the problem
under Problems found. The launcher drops a FONTCONFIG_* variable that points at a missing path
before starting the app and logs it; a session whose fc-match sans-serif is empty is logged too.
  • The app now runs with its own font cache. The reporter traced the empty font set to a stale
~/.cache/fontconfig/*.cache-11 written by an Ubuntu distrobox sharing $HOME: Electron's bundled
fontconfig uses its own cache format and trusted the container's cache for the same font directory,
while the host's fc-match (another format) stayed healthy. The launcher starts the app with
    ~/.cache/claude-desktop/fontconfig/fonts.conf, the distro's /etc/fonts/fonts.conf with the shared
<cachedir> entries replaced by a private one, so nothing else sharing $HOME can feed the app a
cache. Font directories, conf.d and the user's fontconfig stay as configured; the first start
rescans the fonts once. An explicit FONTCONFIG_* variable is kept, CLAUDE_PRIVATE_FONT_CACHE=0
opts out, and --diagnose reports which cache the app uses.

Quick Entry diagnostics (#281)

  • Every Quick Entry show now logs what the window sees. claude-patches.log gets one
[quick-entry] shown WxH focused=... {textarea, focused, font, color, placeholder, caret, fonts} line
per show, so a bar without a visible text field can be told apart by its line: font not loaded, no
keyboard focus, or colors from a theme. Public Electron APIs only.
  • A KDE shortcut stored without a key is named as such. When the "register the following shortcut"
dialog was dismissed once, Plasma keeps the shortcut with no key and never fires it; the re-bind log line
now ends in (no key assigned - set one in System Settings > Shortcuts > Claude) instead of listing the
id as if it were armed. Reproduced on Bazzite 44 (Plasma 6.7.5) after a fresh login.
