Changes since last release
From CHANGELOG.md, 2026-10-10:
Custom models in the Code picker (new community feature, thanks @hexadecimil, #270)
Models from Anthropic-compatible endpoints (DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, MiniMax, Qwen, OpenRouter, a gateway
such as LiteLLM, or Anthropic's API on your API credit) can be added to the Code tab's model picker, next
to Anthropic's. Sessions on them go to that provider with your key; everything else stays on the
subscription. Unlike 3P mode, nothing is replaced. Off by default.
- Settings → Extra → Models manages providers and models: presets, Fetch models, a connection test
and effort detection. The same settings can be written undercustomModelsin
claude-desktop-extra.jsonc. - The entries are added to claude.ai's
/api/bootstrapresponse. A preload in the Claude Code CLI
(BUN_OPTIONS) forwards only the custom models' requests, reduced to what compatible APIs accept.
Changes to keys, models and the switch apply to open sessions. - Every model is also a sub-agent type, and each new session gets one system-prompt line about them.
Optional app-wide settings: the web search model, the small/fast model and the default sub-agent
model. - Models default to a 1M context window (
claude-<id>[1m]). A model with a smaller window is set to
200k in its form. - Claude models on Anthropic's API are listed as
claude-<provider>-<model>, so they do not take over
the subscription's entries. Their requests go through as the CLI writes them, prompt caching included,
except the attribution line, which sayscc_entrypoint=cli: the API refusesclaude-desktopon an
API key. - Keys are stored in a 0600 file, never reach the page or a session's environment, and only go to the
host they were saved for. Cowork, Dispatch and SSH sessions are not affected. - Docs:
