Reth v2.7.0 prepares Sepolia for the Glamsterdam hardfork and brings fixes to state persistence, forkchoice, RPC, and networking.

Action required

Sepolia operators must upgrade before 6 October 2026 at 13:53:36 UTC. This release schedules Amsterdam activation on Sepolia testnet and tests the fork ID and eth_config transition. (Reth change, official schedule)

Highlights

• Hardfork and storage readiness: Enabled persistent RocksDB storage for block access lists. Read-only tools can also open older databases that do not yet have the BAL tables. (#26789, #27471)
• Performance and configuration: Enabled the shared sender recovery cache by default, lowered the default RPC cache counts (blocks: 5,000 to 1,000; blocks' receipts: 2,000 to 500), added per-cache byte limits and idle eviction, and made the engine backfill threshold configurable. (#27447, #27310, #27351, #27329)
• RPC tracing cache: Use --rpc-cache.cache-computed-bals to retain computed BALs for faster repeat traces. --rpc-cache.prewarm-bals[=<BLOCKS>] also enables caching and prewarms new canonical blocks, optionally replaying recent blocks on startup. In v2.7, --rpc-cache.max-bals-bytes and --rpc-cache.idle-timeout bound retained cache data. (#24037, #24097, #26835, #27351)

RPC behavior changes

• The testing RPC namespace now requires explicit selection. Calls to trace_callMany without a block and trace_filter without bounds now default to latest; callers needing pending state or historical ranges should specify them. eth_estimateGas now respects --rpc.gascap. (#27398, #27410, #27411, #27384)
• Corrected Otterscan block and transaction responses. (#27217)
• Fixed tracing responses: trace_get now selects results by trace tree path, and replaying a missing transaction returns null. (#27366, #27364)
