The menus and the text scale with the screen and stay sharp at any resolution, and the sizes of the HUD and the menus can be set in the game.
- The menus keep their proportions at any resolution. The game lays them out in pixels for 640x480, or 1024x768 with the high-resolution set, so at 2160 lines they were about a third of their size at 1024x768, with tiny text and wide gaps. The frontend, the rally screens between stages, the pause menu, the stage results and the loading screen are now drawn on a screen of the display's shape at the original's height and scaled to the display, whose pixels are still drawn at its resolution, the 3D of the menus included. They take the same part of the screen at any resolution.
[video] menu_scalesets their size in percent (100 by default; 0 keeps the original's layout in pixels). (#23) - The text is drawn from outlines and stays sharp however much it is scaled. The game's Helvetica fonts are drawn with TeX Gyre Heros, a Helvetica under a free licence built into the executable, fitted to each font's size, weight and baseline and to each letter's place and width, so the text is laid out exactly as before. The other fonts (the clock, the LCD digits) are rebuilt from their own bitmaps.
[video] outline_fonts = 0keeps the original bitmaps. - The graphics options have a Screen page with the sizes of the HUD and of the menus (50% to 150%), the vertical sync and the fullscreen window. OK saves what changed in opencmr2.ini.
- Scaled sprites are always filtered smoothly;
[video] hud_filteris gone.
Tested locally on Linux i686 and x86-64: the unit tests and the runtime scenarios, and the menus, the pause menu, the stage results and the loading screen at 2560x1600. Release packages are built and tested by GitHub Actions for each supported platform.
