The in-race HUD scales with the screen and keeps to its edges on wide screens, and fixes for a crash when leaving a stage and for memory read past its end.
- The in-race HUD keeps its proportions at any resolution and aspect ratio. The game lays it out for a 4:3 screen, in pixels for 640x480 or 1024x768, so at 3440x1440 it was about a third of its size at 1024x768, and on 21:9 its panels stretched around their text. It is now drawn as on that 4:3 screen and each element (dash, timing panels, map, pace notes) is scaled with the screen's height and kept at the edge or the middle it belongs to, within 16:9 by default. At 4:3 it looks as before.
[video] hud_scalesets its size in percent (0 keeps the original's layout in pixels) andhud_aspectthe widest shape it spreads over (16:9,21:9orfull). The menus are still drawn in pixels for 640x480. (#20) - Scaled-up sprites and text no longer show thin lines from the next letter of the font, and their pixels keep one size instead of coming out one or two pixels wide.
- Fix the crash when leaving a stage to the main menu, or quitting the game, after an arcade race. Since 1.2.0 every car of an arcade race has the snow or clean wheels only the player's car had, and a later stage with fewer cars destroyed the other cars' wheels a second time. (#21)
- Fix memory read past its end, found by running every runtime scenario with AddressSanitizer and UBSan: the surface under a point off the stage's mesh (flying debris, a wheel off the track), the target times of the split bar, and the Rally Challenge results, which take a driver's name from the save data's profiles, now laid out as in the original.
- The README and new settings files list every setting:
vsync,window_scale,smooth_scaling,anisotropyand the menu key repeat were not documented.
Tested locally on Linux i686 and x86-64: the unit tests and the 34 runtime scenarios, with and without AddressSanitizer and UBSan, and the HUD at 4:3 and 21:9 with both speedometers. Release packages are built and tested by GitHub Actions for each supported platform.
