Faster rendering with the same picture, the display's own resolution on scaled desktops, and fixes for a crash with the Ford Escort Mk1, the super special and Rally Challenge opponents and the Rally Challenge results menu.
- Frames take less than half the time to render. Draws set only the state that changed, the stage geometry stays on the GPU instead of being copied every frame, and the lens flare's read of the picture no longer waits for the GPU. In a six-car Kenya race at 1152x720 on a Radeon 780M with vsync off, frames take 0.72 ms instead of 1.51 (median) and 1.8 ms instead of 5.6 (99th percentile). The picture is the same: every frame of that race is identical to the previous renderer's.
- No more hitches the first time each kind of drawing appears in a player's first race: the pipelines are made at startup.
- On scaled Wayland and macOS desktops the game offers the display's own resolution, and fullscreen draws at it. A 2560x1600 display at 200 % stopped at 1280x800.
- Fix the crash before every race with the Ford Escort Mk1. (#17)
- After a stage, show the replay header instead of the network "you are now the new host" screen. (#18)
- The computer opponents of the super specials and the Rally Challenge follow their recorded runs to the end instead of stopping against the scenery. The original ran this math with the x87 at Direct3D 7's single precision, and the port now rounds the same way on every platform. (#19)
- Rally Challenge results menu: every press moves the cursor (about half were lost at 60 FPS, more at higher frame rates), and a profile with stage records no longer overwrites the menu text, which could crash on Restart.
- At high car detail every car has the player's model and textures ([video] car_detail, on by default). New configurations start at high car detail.
- Keep the movies' proportions on wide and tall screens; [video] stretch_movies = 1 stretches them as before. (#16)
- The game data check also requires CountrySpecific and SetupRep, and the missing-file box names the file instead of asking for a CD. (#15)
- Fix memory written or read past its end, found with AddressSanitizer: the arcade computer cars, the Ford Racing Puma's team, the weather map symbols and the rain and snow quads.
- Write each controller's identity and Steam's controller variables to
opencmr2.log. (#9)
Tested locally on Linux i686 and x86-64: the unit tests, the 44 runtime scenarios including the computer opponents' runs, and the picture of every frame of 21 scenarios compared with the previous renderer. Release packages are built and tested by GitHub Actions for each supported platform.
