New features
Address search
- Find a place by name with the new search button on the map. Results show as you type, nearest to where you're looking first.
- In Location mode a result places the marker. In Route mode it adds a route point named after the place.
- Uses the free Photon server by default; you can point it at your own server in Settings → Search & routing.
Routes that follow real roads
- Route sections can now follow streets like a navigation app instead of straight lines. Turn Follow roads on for the whole route, or set each section to Straight or Follow roads.
- Car, bike or foot roads are picked from the section's speed.
- Road paths are saved with the route, so playback, favorites and backups work offline once loaded.
- Sections whose road couldn't be loaded show a red ⚠ badge with Retry. Before playing, you can choose to play them as straight lines.
- The routing server can be changed in Settings → Search & routing.
New map: MapLibre (now the default)
- Sharper vector maps with light and dark styles that follow the app theme. The classic osmdroid map is still available in Settings → Map.
- You can set your own MapLibre style URL.
- Offline maps: download the area you're looking at and use the map without a connection. Downloads continue while you use the app and resume after losing the connection. Areas are named after the place automatically.
- Manage downloaded areas in Settings → Map → Offline areas: see their size, resume, rename or delete them.
Improvements
- The APK is much smaller: about 12 MB instead of 95 MB.
- Map choice and style URL are included in settings backups.
