github nodetool-ai/nodetool v0.8.3
Nodetool v0.8.3

NodeTool 0.8.3 makes NodeTool installable from npm again and runs it headless for coding agents. It adds round-trip exchange with Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, a much deeper native game engine, and new export paths for mini apps, games, scripts, and workflows. It also adds browser-tab providers for ChatGPT and Gemini. Hundreds of fixes come from audit passes over every editor and guided flow.

Upgrade note for npm users

npm install @nodetool-ai/cli failed for 0.8.1 and 0.8.2. Some packages were published from different commits, so the CLI imported exports that its dependencies did not have. All 0.8.3 packages come from one commit, with exact version pins between them.

npx @nodetool-ai/cli@0.8.3 --help

Before any package goes to the registry, the publish workflow now installs the packed CLI into an empty project and an empty HOME. It then checks --version, --help, mcp serve, a workflow run without a model, and serve /health. After the publish, it installs the CLI from the registry and runs it again. A package is not published if one of its workspace dependencies failed to publish.

Highlights

NodeTool as a headless harness for agents

  • Use the CLI from npm without a repository, a .env file, a keychain, or provider keys. The CLI README documents the npx form.
  • nodetool serve warns and keeps going when no system keychain is available.
  • Run part of a workflow over REST and MCP. Saved generations are used again, not regenerated.
  • Skills are published as MCP prompts.
  • The stdio MCP forwarder stays open through long tool calls. After a server restart or a lost session, it reconnects and replays the handshake.
  • Convert a workflow into a sandbox script or a Node.js script.

Adobe exchange

  • Export a timeline for Adobe Premiere Pro. Import a Premiere Pro XML sequence with its media.
  • Export a sketch as a layered PSD. Import a layered PSD into a sketch. The PSD reader is tested against real Photoshop files.
  • Export the media of a timeline as a zip file.

Export anything

  • Export a game as a standalone Tauri desktop app (#6467).
  • Export a mini app as a standalone JavaScript project (#6468).
  • Export a whole voiced script as WAV or MP3 (#6470).
  • Import and export common 3D formats in the 3D editor (#6472).

Native game engine

  • 3D post-processing, image-based lighting and sky, and cascaded and local light shadows (G3, #6293, G4).
  • 2D particles as instanced sprites, with a CPU simulator and a Canvas2D fallback (G10).
  • Spatial audio, an audio mixer, and buses (G19, G20).
  • An animation graph runtime and a 3D collision layer matrix (G22, G66).
  • Scripts get lifecycle hooks, timers, typed events with payloads, and parameters bound to the inspector (G28, G32, #6299). The per-call script limit is measured in thread CPU time.
  • A HUD widget tree for 2D games with a shared layout engine (G34).
  • Input bindings with gamepad and 3D touch (G33).
  • Distance culling and frame budgets (G38).
  • The editor has an asset browser, a console panel, a command palette, curve and gradient editors, and saved docked layouts (G50, G52, G60, V4, #6230).
  • Entity tags and mutable properties (#6227).
  • A guided flow for 2D games.

Timeline and storyboard

  • Clips link to storyboard shots, with take switching and shots derived from clips.
  • Render 2 to 5 consecutive shots as one scene clip (#6396).
  • The preview decodes frames with WebCodecs and uploads video through external textures (#6443). It plays large motion-graphics timelines.
  • A volume control in the preview. Pick a replacement clip from an asset picker.
  • The storyboard has a slideshow, a card size slider, a prompt view, cost confirmations, and still editing in the shot editor (#6377).
  • Create storyboards in graphs. Entities reach every generation node (#6300).
  • Many fixes from four timeline audits: undo, locks, fades, export length, frame matching, GPU loss, cancel, and touch gestures (#6392).

Sketch and 3D

  • A History panel, rulers, guides, and smart-guide snapping for every drawing tool (#6262).
  • Strokes, pan, and zoom composite only what changed.
  • The 3D editor works like a game scene editor. It plays animations, imports models, and has Render with AI (#6263).
  • Many fixes from editor audits, including undo steps, locked layers, fills, gradients, and groups.

Mini apps and workflows

  • The App node runs a mini app inside a workflow.
  • Draw and edit lineage links on the canvas. They are stored beside graph edges.
  • Mini apps have a stepper rail, stepped example apps, and folded model pickers.
  • Nodes show model pickers (#6314).
  • The Cmd+K command menu opens on every view, with commands for each view.
  • Every example workflow has a layout and an intro comment. Each one runs under fake providers in CI (#6298).
  • ManimGX scene nodes, an authoring skill, and a Python code editor. Install ManimGX from the Package Manager.

Chat

  • Regenerate a reply, edit a sent message in place, use actions on tool replies, and render math.
  • Message HTML is sanitized. History, streaming, and composer bugs are fixed.
  • Detached chat turns stop when the server drains.

Design system

  • Menus, dropdowns, dialogs, forms, panels, lists, and grids follow one standard each (#6469, #6388, #6471).
  • Tooltips use one delay and show shortcut hints (#6477).
  • A refreshed light theme with neutral surfaces, brand blue, and softer shadows.
  • The documentation screenshots are rendered again, and pages without a screenshot now have one (#6479).

Providers and models

  • ChatGPT and Gemini providers drive the user's own chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com tabs.
  • The Meta provider adds Muse search, tools, and media.
  • API Route chat provider. Opper as an OpenAI-compatible provider.
  • Dreamina polls and result downloads have time limits (#6453).
  • Speech recognition defaults to OpenAI.
  • Local LLMs: context size, streaming, tool ids, and model lifecycle are fixed. Cancel, updates, and options pass across the Python bridge.
  • RunPod GPU workers run on CUDA 13 hosts.
  • Nunchaku support is removed.

Desktop and self-hosting

  • Python pack installs work without a GPU build, with an old uv, and on old macOS. GPU detection and cache paths are fixed.
  • The backend stops on quit. IPC holes are closed, renderer permissions are scoped, and Electron fuses are set.
  • Package installs and backend restarts are queued.
  • Backend startup is faster. The Python worker can start on demand.
  • Desktop and server logs rotate at 10 MB.
  • Self-hosted API users, storage paths, compose environment forwarding, and deploy token auth work (#6383, #6297).
  • Features that need a local host are hidden in the cloud profile (#6474).
  • PDF, Office, OCR, TensorFlow.js, Fabric, and IMAP libraries are optional.

Security

  • An encoded-path auth bypass in the API is closed, with nine other API bugs.
  • Auth and path-escape holes in the API, MCP, and CLI are closed. CLI exit codes are correct.

Reliability

  • Traces cover provider media calls, the Python worker, /ws commands, and asset storage. The Trace panel explains failures and has searchable run and span pickers.
  • Concurrent runs of one workflow stay independent. Lost edits and false save conflicts are fixed.
  • CI gates that ran no tests now fail. Integration and E2E tests block a merge.
  • Mutation testing (#6409) and CRAP scores (#6405) run on TypeScript changes.
  • Seven rounds of first-time-user QA, run by agents, closed gaps in setup, editors, tabs, and themes.
