Release Notes
First public 2.3 candidate, consolidating the pending updates instead of a 2.2.2 release.
The rc.1 publication was cancelled after review found that Windows repair could
remove the updater receipt. The immutable rc.1 tag is retained.
This is a prerelease: stable update checks exclude it unless users explicitly
choose preview. Real Windows playback and sleep/resume verification remain
required before 2.3 stable.
Added
- Windows x64 support: installed/portable browser discovery, explicit custom
profiles, verified Windows CDM downloads, immutable profile-scoped publication
and component registration, native tray/startup/wake integration, owner-only
named-pipe IPC, and PE diagnostics. Based on paparei's Windows port, preserving
the original commit authorship. silvervine tui: Overview, Browsers, Diagnostics, Updates, Logs, and Settings.
Run browser actions, view/export diagnostics, search bounded local logs, edit

[updates] channel = "stable" | "preview"and one-time
update self --channeloverrides. Stable remains the default andauto_apply
remains a separate opt-in, including for existing configurations. - Windows release zip, PowerShell installer, updater/receipt support, and native
build, lint, test, and release gates.
Fixed
- Keep Windows caches in a disposable subdirectory, separate from the installer
receipt, so repair/uninstall cannot erase update eligibility. - Windows self-updates make the mapped executable's filename replaceable,
require a receipt matching that installation, restore the previous binary and
receipt after failed or no-op installation, and restart
the registered daemon after a manual update. - Treat Windows lock contention as a skipped busy lock rather than an I/O failure.
- Preserve authenticated ZIP read/expansion failures as invalid bundle structure.
Security
- Update rustls to 0.23.46, rustls-webpki to 0.103.16, webpki-roots to 1.0.11,
and zip to 9.0.5. Retain archive/signature/digest checks across the ZIP upgrade. - Include Windows in dependency auditing. Three documented temporary exceptions
cover D-Bus unmaintained-package notices only, pending tray/notification
upstream migration; review by 2027-01-23. Vulnerability checks remain enforced. - Reject case-alias duplicate ZIP outputs and Unicode Windows device-name aliases
before extraction or authenticated payload selection.
Changed
- Integrate pending updates to sha2, serde_json, objc2, libc, thiserror, and the
pinned install action. - Shorten the README; add focused usage, Windows testing, and troubleshooting
guides. Replace obsolete distribution/feature promises with a 2.3 release
checklist and evidence-driven maintenance roadmap. - Retain legacy Neon migration compatibility throughout 2.x and move its guidance
outside the main installation flow. Archive the unsupported bridge experiment.
