v4.1.52: Kobo opens downloads at your web reader place, retryable highlight saves, smart metadata keeps your title

A small release: a Kobo now opens a freshly downloaded book at the place you were reading in the web reader, a failed highlight or note save in the web reader can be retried, and Smart metadata mode stops replacing a title or description you already have.

docker pull ghcr.io/new-usemame/calibre-web-nextgen:v4.1.52

Before you upgrade

  • Nothing to do. There are no database changes, and the KOReader plugin stays at 4.1.48.

Fixed

  • A Kobo that downloads a book now opens at the place you were reading in the web reader. Before, a book downloaded (or re-downloaded) to a Kobo opened at the cover at 1% until the web reader saved a new position. Now, after the Kobo finishes downloading the KEPUB, the next sync sends the shared place once, if Share my place is on for that Kobo and the Kobo has no newer place of its own. Reported by @sgreadly in #2688.
  • A failed highlight or note save in the web reader can be retried. Before, a failed save said nothing and cleared the selection, so a typed note was lost. Now the reader says the save failed, keeps the selection and the note, and saving again sends the same highlight. Thanks @jay23606 (#2550, #2554).
  • Smart metadata mode no longer replaces an existing title or description with a longer one. It only fills a title or description that is missing (empty, or Calibre's "Unknown" title), the way it already treated series, publisher, date, rating and cover. A study guide's title and blurb are usually longer than the real book's, so "longer wins" could put another product's metadata on your book. The setting's description now says what smart mode does. Thanks @splitsec2 (#2669).
