Book sources that import from OPDS catalogs and download clients, personal ratings and reviews, Did not finish and On hold reading states, and a batch of KOReader, Kobo and metadata fixes.
docker pull ghcr.io/new-usemame/calibre-web-nextgen:v4.1.46Upgrading
- KOReader plugin 4.1.46. Update CWNG Sync from KOReader's Updates Manager, or download it again from the admin page. The update brings the Library mode responsiveness and pull-progress fixes below.
- Database changes run automatically at first start. This release adds new tables (personal ratings, private reviews, a marker for the built-in shelf date upgrade) and new columns (shelf sharing permission, support-link settings, default fonts, custom-column visibility, managed Calibre server settings, highlight text anchors). No manual step is needed. Existing accounts keep their current permissions, links and sync settings.
- Two defaults changed. The general cache in Docker now defaults to
/config/cache(an explicitCACHE_DIRis unchanged). New accounts sync only selected shelves to a Kobo; existing accounts keep their setting. - Optional new settings, all off or unchanged by default. Book sources, the managed Calibre content server, the support-link override and filename matching for KOReader do nothing until an administrator turns them on. Generic OIDC can now be configured through
GENERIC_OAUTH_*environment variables (orGENERIC_OAUTH_CLIENT_SECRET_FILE). - No new dependencies in this release.
New
Book sources
- Find books pulls a book straight into your library from an OPDS catalog. Administrators add catalogs under Admin → Book sources, test them and choose who may use them. Requests wait for approval unless the account has auto-approve, and each one ends with an import receipt. Off by default.
- More ways to fetch. Search several catalogs at once; search a Newznab/Torznab indexer (Prowlarr and Jackett presets) and import through SABnzbd; use NZBGet, qBittorrent or Transmission; choose individual books from a completed download (#2459); import DRM-free MOBI 6 books where enabled.
- Torrent and magnet support. Pure-v2 and hybrid torrent files, direct pure-v2 and paired hybrid magnets (qBittorrent with libtorrent 2.0), and v1 torrents with per-file hints now import. Unsupported clients refuse before submission and can be retried.
- OPDS 1 and OPDS 2 detail pages can be opened before requesting a book, and OPDS 2 language maps use your account locale (#2463).
- Busy download clients no longer strand requests. Polling is bounded, completed downloads survive tracker errors and NZBGet repair warnings, and final-directory moves wait without resubmitting.
Reading and shelves
- Did not finish and On hold states in the New UI and Classic keep your position, highlights and notes. Filter them in the catalog, Advanced Search, smart shelves and OPDS (#1081).
- Personal half-star ratings for every reader, in Classic and the New UI, without changing Calibre metadata. Household averages include only readers who choose to share.
- Private book reviews on the book page in both UIs (#917).
- Open a book without saving progress (lookup mode), and remove a book from Currently Reading without losing saved positions.
- Smart and ordinary shelf pages in the New UI with matching editors, sharing, device sync and OPDS visibility options.
- Drag books onto sidebar shelves in the New UI, with a touch handle and keyboard picker (#946, thanks @KucharczykL). Add books on a shelf opens a searchable picker.
- Shift+click selects a run of books (#2266), and Select all covers the whole current view (#2268).
- Series links on book cards open the series page (#1007). Choose a shelf or smart shelf as the source for Discover picks (#1229, thanks @chloeroform).
- Filter Authors and Series by book count. Browse custom columns, including trees, in the New UI (thanks @Rol3333, #2363).
Library management
- Bulk Edit can remove tags, authors, publishers or languages (#1703, thanks @magdalar). A server-rejected field now shows as failed.
- Export a filtered book list as CSV or TXT (#1059). Find ISBNs inside book files from the metadata editor (#303, thanks @briffaantoine).
- Tag imported books by their ingest folder (#1495). Sort by configured numeric and date custom columns, and restrict views with Boolean and enumeration custom columns.
- Large PDF conversion now gets time proportional to page count, up to 12 hours.
- Custom OPDS download filenames from a metadata template (thanks @trallen, #2373).
- Optional managed Calibre content server for Calibre clients, disabled by default (thanks @benjitobz, #2210).
Readers, sync and administration
- Word-based reading apps sync positions and highlights with KOReader, the web reader and Kobo. A Calibre book id also works as a KOSync document key.
- Match KOReader reading by filename for converted or edited sideloaded copies, an optional Advanced setting (#1444).
- Literata font in both EPUB readers (thanks @sgreadly), uploadable reader fonts for the whole server, and default body and display fonts for new accounts (#751).
- Generic OIDC without secrets in the database, and a custom support URL that replaces or hides project links.
- Choose which custom fields appear on New UI cards and tables. Book detail can hide the original imported filename. The View settings menu now holds Export and a switch for the shelf drag handles (#2475, thanks @kanjieater).
Fixed
Kobo, KOReader and sync
- Kobo sync no longer fails on reading positions that carry a time zone (#2457).
- KOReader stays responsive while Library mode loads a large book list, with a progress notice (#2329). Pull progress restores a position the device saved itself (#2380).
- Edits to a highlight from KOReader advance its revision.
- Calibre Web Companion 2.3.1 and similar apps can sign in again (CSRF token on
/login). - Selecting text while a synced book opens no longer loses the selection.
Metadata and import
- Automatic metadata fetch no longer fails on an existing rating value (#2435, thanks @Godferdom), no longer applies the next volume of a numbered series, and fills in books with an "Unknown" author (#2479, thanks @splitsec2).
- Changing the value of an identifier a book already has is saved (#2387, thanks @garionjb).
- A large library no longer delays startup looking for half-written covers (#2509).
- Convert Library and ingest no longer delete each other's files; Convert Library and the EPUB Fixer start again after a killed run; Cancel stops the running conversion (#2425, #2424, thanks @splitsec2).
- Kindle EPUB Fixer keeps book content when removing Amazon markers (#1528, thanks @sltvtr), keeps stylesheet encoding correct, and removes commented-out XML declarations that blanked Kobo pages (#2506, #2507, thanks @sgreadly). Single-book repairs now enforce admin and CSRF checks and save their history.
- ACSM tickets run installed Calibre import plugins (#1228). Conversion choices match the installed Calibre plugins.
- Higher-resolution Kindle covers are tried first.
- Requests no longer keep a different edition with the same title, or duplicate an EPUB that only differs in ZIP packaging.
Interface and accounts
- Covers load from the browser cache again (#2386, thanks @Dirk71).
- Renaming an account to a different letter case works (#2437, thanks @Godferdom).
- Swedish, Finnish, Danish and Norwegian letters sort and filter after Z (#521, #1050, thanks @chloeroform).
- Smart shelves and Tags use one name across Classic, the New UI and OPDS (#1498, #1511).
- Long series names no longer hide the book number on cards (#2051, thanks @magdalar).
- Recently Added and Recent Publications shelves keep moving with the date (#2370, thanks @trallen).
- Unsupported smart-shelf rules stay visible in the New UI (#1617, thanks @alva-seal). Sharing your own shelves no longer needs permission to edit public ones.
- EPUB footnotes follow publisher styles and Go to note works at larger text sizes (#2255, thanks @futsiang76).
- Stats and Activity follow your account language (#1173, thanks @standhaftsohnsergius).
- OPDS search honors the signed-in reader's restrictions. Custom date fields use their stored calendar day.
- Fresh containers started as a non-root user complete setup. Windows and macOS processor names no longer trigger a false architecture warning (#2232, thanks @Rol3333). Bare-metal logs are no longer written twice (#1613, thanks @Thovi98).
- Classic metadata and search controls have accessible names; light-theme count badges are readable.
Security
- Text typed by another user, such as a username or book title, no longer runs as code on the admin Tasks page (#1076, thanks @aguspatur22, #2209). Smart-shelf names and icons are also escaped in Classic headings.
