What's Changed
Fixed: 1.4.3 regression on Android 8.1 and older. The signature-rewrite feature added in 1.4.3 assumed the framework's hidden WebViewProviderInfo.signatures field holds Signature objects — true on Android 9 and newer, but on Android 8.1 and older it holds the raw base64 config strings. On those versions the module crashed while building the provider list (ClassCastException tagged anywebview in the framework log) and left the list untouched, so only the stock built-in entry remained: installed providers such as Android System WebView or Chrome disappeared from Developer options → WebView implementation (#36).
v1.4.4 compares declared signatures one entry at a time, decoding the base64 strings on pre-9 releases exactly like the framework's own signature check. Android 9+ behavior is unchanged.
Compatibility (real-device reports):
- Android 8.1 - regression confirmed fixed by the reporter, see #36
- Android 16 (Pixel 7, stock) - Cromite SystemWebView confirmed working in 1.4.3 (Magisk + LSPosed), see #35; the 9+ code path is untouched in this release
- Other versions - success and failure reports are welcome
