Project Maya v1.1.15

Faster EXL3 drafting across many GPUs, faster long prompts on V100s, a faster CPU lane on Zen 5, and EXL3 on AMD (experimental).

Update: the dashboard's About > Update, or git pull, then ./setup.sh (Windows: START-MAYA.bat). The engine recompiles; nothing is downloaded again.

What's new

  • EXL3 with DFlash2 on many GPUs, faster (#225 by @needmorevram). Pipelined verify rounds, decode's attention on the tensor cores (RTX 30 series and newer) and a shorter drafter chain. On an RTX 3090 + 8x RTX 5060 Ti with EXL3-4.05bpw and DFlash2: decode 71 -> 81 tokens/s greedy, 69 -> 79 sampled, 46 -> 59 on 32K-token documents - the same tokens with drafts as without. Every part has a setting to turn it off (docs/SETTINGS.md).
  • Long prompts faster on Tesla V100 and RTX 20 (#196 by @merbanan). Their prompt attention runs in two passes with 32 heads a block: on one V100, a 27K-token prompt's attention went from 22.5 to 11.8 s and the whole prompt from 78.4 to 67.9 s. STRATA_GLM_PREFILL_ATTN=tc keeps the previous kernel.
  • A faster CPU lane on CPUs with AVX-512 VBMI (#227 by @cryptedy). Where the CPU computes Maya-S / Maya-S24's experts, CPUs with AVX-512 VBMI (Zen 4, Zen 5, Xeons from Ice Lake on) use new rows that give exactly the same results: decode +6-8% on a Zen 5. Other CPUs are unchanged.
  • EXL3 on AMD GPUs, experimental (#186 by @izabera). The setup offers turboderp's EXL3 quants with AMD GPUs too; the EXL3 kernels pass their tests on an RX 7900 XTX and a Radeon 8065S. Their speed on AMD is not tuned yet.
  • DFlash2 on a V100 with little free VRAM (#195 by @merbanan). The drafting windows failed with "out of memory" once the expert pool had taken the VRAM down to a few hundred MB; they run now.
  • Skipping light experts, opt-in (#228 by @cryptedy). STRATA_GLM_MISS_SKIP_W / _FROM leave out a routed expert that is not in VRAM and carries little of the route's weight - faster on RAM-bound PCs, but it changes the answers, so it is off by default.
  • Smaller changes: the setup picks AMD on a first run on a PC with only supported AMD GPUs (#190 by @thomas9120); the image encoder skips its warm-up when it runs on the CPU (#184 by @izabera); docs/SETTINGS.md explains how to get the same answers after a restart with the CPU lane on (#224 by @hiroki-abe-58).

NVIDIA GPUs give v1.1.14's tokens with STRATA_GLM_PREFILL_ATTN=tc, STRATA_GLM_DSA_ALL=0 and STRATA_GLM_MLA_MMA=0. As shipped, three faster paths add the same numbers up in another order, so an answer can differ from v1.1.14's in places: prompts on V100 and RTX 20 (#196), decode on RTX 30 and newer (#225), and conversations under 2048 tokens on any GPU (#225; STRATA_GLM_DSA_ALL=0 on AMD too). Otherwise AMD GPUs give v1.1.14's tokens.

Checked

  • Two Tesla V100s: v1.1.14's tokens on a 6K- and a 1.5K-token prompt with STRATA_GLM_PREFILL_ATTN=tc STRATA_GLM_DSA_ALL=0; the engine's GPU tests; the server end to end.
  • GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Pascal): the engine builds.
  • Radeon 8065S (Gorgon Halo, Windows 11): v1.1.14's tokens with MTP drafting on and off; the EXL3 tests pass.
  • Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 (Zen 5): the new CPU-lane rows give the same tokens as before.
  • The engine builds on Linux and Windows; the GitHub checks.
