⚠️ Change to Mullvad Browser Alpha Channel

From this release, Mullvad Browser Alpha channel will not be based on Firefox ESR, but on the Rapid Release channel. The Rapid Release channel updates every four weeks with new features, while ESR focuses on security updates.

If you are an alpha tester running Mullvad Browser Alpha, you can expect the following changes:

  • quicker access to new Firefox features, allowing for longer evaluation periods of their compatibility with Mullvad Browser's privacy and security measures.
  • may introduce more bugs and potential security implications.
  • potentially a less predictable release cadences.

For Stable users, this means one major feature release per year instead of two.

The rationale behind this change is to reduce developer stress, improve feature development continuity, and spread out the intensive ESR transition work throughout the year, making the development process more effective and sustainable.
The project views this as an experiment, with the option to revert if major issues arise.
