Tomba's new opt-in Custom Renderer replaces the old fixed-16:9 widescreen patches.
- Enable Custom Renderer in Mods. Fit to Window is the default and follows resizing without an upper aspect-ratio limit.
- Fixed 16:9, 21:9 and 32:9 are additional choices using the same renderer.
- Leave the mod disabled for the stock 4:3 renderer.
- Terrain selection and resident-object visibility follow the expanded viewport; HUD groups anchor to the visible edges.
- Fixes the reported rooftop object-bank boundary, floating foliage/background-terrain issues, and intermittent 4:3 black bars in the tested scenes.
Extreme widths and all-area enemy spawning remain experimental. Very wide views can still lower the game's frame rate. This is a renderer release, not the proposed HLE/performance optimization work; see the performance investigation.
Quick-save compatibility: the updated framework uses a newer snapshot format. Older quick-save states may not load. Keep your previous installation and saves; do not rely on an old quick-save as your only record of progress.
Download the Windows x64 ZIP or experimental Linux x86-64 AppImage. OpenBIOS is included; supply your own Tomba! USA disc (SCUS-94236). No disc, retail BIOS, or player saves are included. SHA-256 sidecars accompany both downloads.
Both packages contain freshly compiled and audited native overlays for all 25 configured original-disc images: 196 native shard pairs / 8,213 entry rows per platform. Guards are checked against the original disc; full static execution coverage is not claimed.
Validation: all three unit/config/catalog tests pass on Windows and Linux. The packaged Windows executable renders the stock intro and an ultrawide gameplay snapshot with Fit enabled; earlier live resize tests covered Fit through 64:9 and all fixed choices. The Linux AppImage boots with isolated writable state and renders advancing intro frames under OpenGL/Mesa. Both smoke tests disable runtime overlay compilation. This remains spot validation, not a complete playthrough.
