Ape Escape v0.5.1 fixes the remaining measured slowdown in crowded scenes with PSXRecomp's shared guest-cycle scaling. VBlank, timers, CD, SPU, and DMA remain on the original PlayStation clock, while settled gameplay remains capped at the game's original 30 FPS cadence.
Measured results:
- Crabby Beach improved from 29.06 FPS with 18 delayed frames in 8.05 seconds to 30.06 FPS with every measured game frame taking two VBlanks.
- Fourteen idle and movement samples across seven areas held 29.92-30.16 FPS and 59.60-60.08 guest VBlanks per second, with no delayed or one-VBlank gameplay frames.
- Save-state save/load, four area transitions, populated memory-card reads, and active audio passed without softlocks, card aborts, underruns, or overflow drops.
Windows and Linux now use the same published source and PSXRecomp framework revision. Both packages passed their release layout checks, original-disc AOT audits, and packaged headless boot smoke tests. OpenBIOS is included; supply your legally obtained Ape Escape (USA, SCUS-94423) disc image.
Testing covered saved checkpoints and selected transitions rather than a complete playthrough. The separate Fast Loading transition-noise and Crumbling Castle investigation remains open.
