Gander 2.4 plays animated WebP and PNG pictures, scrolls the title bar away as you read, and draws a presentation's bullets as the symbols they are.
Gander is on Google Play, signed with the same key as these releases.
Photos
- An animated WebP or PNG plays, as a GIF does. Gander showed only its first frame. Reported in a Play review, #49.
Documents
- The title bar scrolls up out of sight as you scroll down a document, following your finger, and comes back as you scroll up or reach the top. It moves over the page rather than resizing it, so the text doesn't jump, and the clock above it stays. It stays put while you search, and with TalkBack on. This is in PDFs, Word and other text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, Markdown and text files. Asked for in a Play review, #40.
- In a .doc, .odt or .rtf file, symbols set in Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3 or Webdings show as the ticks, arrows and shapes they are, where they came out as other symbols or plain bullets.
Presentations
- A slide's bullets show as the arrows, squares and ticks they are, where some were empty boxes or the letter l. PowerPoint sets many bullets in fonts no phone has, such as Wingdings, so Gander draws each as the nearest character the phone has.
- The text after a slide's bullets starts where PowerPoint starts it, whatever each bullet's width, and each bullet sits on its line.
Install
Gander-2.4.apk runs on every phone. The app ships no native libraries, so there is no architecture to choose.
Viewing PDFs needs Android System WebView 125 or newer (May 2024), Word documents 80 and Markdown files 92. Any phone still receiving WebView updates is well past all three.
