Highlights
- The 100-game limit is gone. There is no longer a cap on how many games you can cache. Games cached by launching them are never limited. Bulk caching (Add ROM, Scan/Add folder, Smart Cache) is paced at 100 new games per 30 minutes and anything beyond that waits in a background queue that works through itself while the proxy runs. (#174, #192)
- Lighter on RetroAchievements. The background refresh now only covers games you played in the last 7 days instead of your whole library. Cached games no longer expire. (#170, #171, #172)
- Opt-in anonymous usage statistics. You're asked once whether to share anonymous statistics (number of users, RA requests, caching load) so we can see the real user base and verify that lifting the limit doesn't put strain on RetroAchievements. Declining or switching it off later stops all counting and deletes local counters. See the privacy policy. (#193, #194, #196)
Please consider opting in to the usage statistics: they are very important for testing this release, and even sharing them for a single month helps a lot.
This is all in an early state and feedback is very welcome!
Android
- Automation API: other apps (e.g. SleepManager) can start, stop and query the proxy, including its caching queue. See automation-api. (#195)
- Added NetherSX2 host-override support via broadcast, using the receiver added in NetherSX2-patch#343. Requires the next NetherSX2 release. (#190)
- The Cached Games header shows when the next background batch runs. Batches now start on time after the device slept, and an overdue batch is marked right away. (d20d0b1, 93f9838)
- "Refresh all" on the Cached Games screen is paced with a cooldown between batches. (#172)
- Smart caching now asks for companion-library consent (e.g. ARMSX2) before caching anything, instead of running a full pass first and a second one after you agreed. A refusal you already gave is respected. (#119)
- Fixed award sync failing with
HTTP 401 Unauthorizedafter logging in through RetroArch, caused by a stale login token cached under a differently-cased username. (#182) - Stopped rewriting every cached patch and its date on each app start. (31c0e64)
Linux (all platforms)
- Same caching budget and background queue as Android: up to 100 new ROMs are cached right away, larger batches ask to continue in the background and the proxy service works through them. (#192)
- The RetroAchievements reachability probe retries on flaky connections, so a weak WiFi link no longer keeps the proxy stuck in offline mode. (#160)
- Tethered network interfaces count as active, and the log says why a probe failed. (c3e3761)
- Menu: no longer re-checks proxy status and missing previews on every frame, and the cached games preview is offset by the header rows actually shown. (a689e94, d727893)
- Usage statistics consent prompt and an Enable/Disable toggle in the main menu. (#194)
spruce
There is no spruce bundle in this release. These changes are not available in spruce's stable release yet. Until spruce ships them, they can only be used with spruce's nightly builds.
- spruce now owns the service and the UI: it starts and stops the proxy with its other network services, and games are picked for caching from its own game list. A toggle in Settings → RetroAchievements → Offline Achievements is the whole interface. Contributed by @Sundownersport. (#169)
- Fixed the proxy not starting on spruce running on dArkMoss, which was mistaken for a dArkOS install. Contributed by @Sundownersport. (#178)
- CLI commands so spruce's own UI can ask for usage-statistics consent. (#196)
dArkOS
- The 32-bit RetroArch config (
retroarch32) is now patched and read as well, so achievements work for systems EmulationStation runs on the 32-bit build. The Tools folder is resolved through its bind mount on two-SD-card setups. (#151)
Onion
- The menu requests a full-resolution framebuffer, contributed by @robcodedev. (#152)
Under the hood
- Nightly builds: every push to
mainbuilds Android and Linux and publishes them to RAOfflineProxy-nightly. Nightly installs get a nightly update channel; stable installs never see nightlies. (#176, #179, #180)
Thanks
- @Sundownersport — spruce owning the service and UI (#169), and the dArkMoss fix (#178).
- @robcodedev — full-resolution framebuffer for the Onion menu (#152).
