1.4.0

New Features

  • No setup screen, and no developer tools. Applite now installs and looks after its own copy of Homebrew, quietly, in the background. First launch takes you straight into the app — there's no walkthrough, and you're no longer asked to download Apple's multi-gigabyte Command Line Tools first.
  • Pick exactly what you move. Export and import now let you choose which apps to include, so you can set up a new Mac with just the apps you actually want.
  • Updated for Liquid Glass, the new look of macOS 26.
  • Stop a download. Downloads and installs can now be cancelled while they're running, one at a time or a whole batch at once.
  • Remove Homebrew. Manage Homebrew can now uninstall Homebrew itself, using Homebrew's own official uninstaller.
  • Right-click an app anywhere in Applite to open its options, and hold ⌘ while clicking an app to open its website.
  • Sort categories the way you prefer, and browse a new AI category.

Improvements

  • Applite opens and searches much faster. The app catalog is now kept in a local database, so the window fills instantly instead of waiting on a download, and search results appear as you type.
  • Installing or updating several apps at once is far quicker and shows clearer progress, including which apps are still waiting.
  • Real app icons. Most apps now show their own icon, with a clean lettered placeholder for the rest.
  • A refreshed look throughout — settings, app details, Manage Homebrew, migration and the uninstall screens have been rebuilt to match the rest of macOS, and app cards now use App Store-style buttons.
  • The password prompt shows Applite's icon, so it's obvious what's asking for your password.
  • Clearer errors. When something goes wrong, Applite explains it in plain language and lets you open the full details if you want them.
  • Fully translated into French, Hungarian, Japanese, Turkish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
  • Applite now requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Fixes

  • Apps from custom taps could silently go missing from the catalog.
  • Uninstalling an app now reliably removes everything it should.
  • Fixed a "couldn't open" message that could keep reappearing, and made launching an installed app more dependable.
  • Download progress is now accurate, and finished downloads no longer appear stuck at the end.
  • Quitting Applite no longer leaves Homebrew running in the background.
  • "Update All" now stays disabled while an update is running, including when you switch tabs.
  • Fixed Refresh App Catalog, now available in the menu bar with ⌘R.
  • Deprecated and unsupported apps are no longer shown in categories.
  • Various layout fixes, including the sidebar, the settings window and category scrolling.
